Obituary of Douglas S. Howlett

Douglas S. Howlett, 80, of Freehold passed away suddenly on Friday, August 18, 2023. He was born and raised in Orange before moving to Freehold 50 years ago.  Doug enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Ronquil SS-396 and was honored to receive his membership in the Holland Club.  Upon his discharge from the military, he began a career at PSEG as a dedicated employee for 30 years, retiring as a maintenance supervisor in 1996. Doug was an active, longstanding member of the Adelphia Fire Company for 48 years where he served as the Chief in 1982 and was a current commissioner, Jersey Shore Submarine Veterans, Howell Township Men’s Bowling League for over 40 years and was the Vice President of the Brenton Harbors Property Association of Toms River.  Doug enjoyed traveling all over the United States with Pat, his favorite trips being the reunions for the USS Ronquil SS-396 for crew.  He enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating and softball, all of which he did with his three sons by his side. He enjoyed his time at his getaway house in Toms River. Nothing was more important to Doug than his family and close friends.

He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley, and Virginia Howlett. Doug is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Patricia of Freehold; three sons, Jason and his wife, Jeanne of Freehold, Scott and his wife, Robyn of Millstone and Ryan and his wife, Jodi of Freehold; Five grandchildren, Rylee, Grant, Jake, Jackson and Emerson; three siblings, Warren Howlett of Toms River, David Howlett and his wife, Patti of Fairlawn and Ginger Doyle and her husband, Paul of South Carolina; sister- in-law, Joyce Latshaw and her husband, Clarence of Summerville.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM with a firefighter service at 7:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 AM Funeral Service on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, 4201 NJ-33, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753.
