Obituary of Karen A. Weiss
Karen Ann (nee Goetz) Weiss passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023 surrounded by loved ones. She was born in East St Louis, Illinois, on September 15, 1955, to Edward and Mary Ann (Piantanida) Goetz. Karen lived many childhood years in Waterford, Michigan, graduating from Our Lady of the Lakes High School in 1973. She attended Michigan State University where she met her husband, Robert Weiss, and they were married on July 26, 1975. Karen then attended the Charles E. Gregory School of Nursing, graduating in 1980, and received her Bachelor’s -of Nursing from Kean University in 1987. She worked for many years as a critical care nurse (CCRN), was a critical care nurse educator, and most recently served as a wound ostomy certified nurse (WOCN) at Bayshore Medical Center.
Karen enjoyed heirloom sewing, especially making christening gowns and communion dresses, and was CEO of "Nana's Stuffed Animal Repair Hospital" for her grandchildren's toys. She was an avid singer, recently singing soprano as a member of the Church choir at St. Martha’s of Point Pleasant. Previously, Karen sang with the Garden State Philharmonic and was vice president of the Jackson Civic Chorus. She loved Christmas, and friends and family looked forward to her delicious Christmas cookies every year.
Karen was predeceased by her husband, Robert Mark Weiss in 2021. She is survived by two daughters, Jenn Bock and her husband, Matthew of Mesa, AZ and Lisa Silber and her husband, David of Toms River; two grandchildren, Caleb James and Sienna Rose Silber; seven brothers and sisters, Theresa Lewis, Mary Loomis and her husband, Steven, Mark Goetz and his wife, Debra, Paul Goetz and his wife, Mairead, John Goetz and his wife, Elizabeth, Ann Lewis and her husband, Joseph and Andrew Goetz and his wife, Tressa; and too many beloved nieces and nephews to count, numerous friends, and her two cats, Raskal and Tracy.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at The Church of St. Martha, 3800 Herbertsville Road, Point Pleasant for a visitation prior to her 11:00 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will follow at Marlboro Memorial Cemetery, 361 Route 79, Marlboro. For those that cannot attend in person, the family invites you to participate via Webcast, HERE.
