William Larsen

Obituary of William A. Larsen

William A. Larsen, 90, Neptune City passed away on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.  Bill was born in Freehold, NJ where he resided until moving to Shrewsbury in 1950.  He graduated from Red Bank Catholic High School where he was the captain and star pitcher of the baseball team.  After graduating, Bill started working at Acme Markets in Red Bank.  His career was interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army from June 1953 to April 1955. After his service, he returned to work at Acme until his retirement as a grocery manager in 1995.  Bill became “Tracker” after a very, very short-lived hunting career with his Red Bank friends.  Tracker was a life-long sports fan well known for his love of the St. Louis Cardinals which included a trip to Busch Stadium with his wife and daughter, Michelle for his 75th birthday.  As an avid NY Giants fan, he saw them play home games in every stadium from the Polo Grounds to MetLife Stadium.  Throughout his life, Tracker enjoyed camping with his family, friends and neighbors; bowling in multiple leagues; playing in several softball leagues in the shore area and later in life becoming the ”lefty” golfer with his Neptune City friends.  Bill’s last passion was being the oldest member of the Leggetts dart league playing until he was 86.

He was predeceased by his sister, Kathleen Kirby and her husband, John.  Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Muriel Berube Larsen; two daughters, Michelle Larsen of Neptune, and Marleen Maddix and her husband, Bob of Neptune.
