Obituary of Florence J. Bauer

Florence J. Bauer of Freehold Township passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at CentraState Medical Center.  Florence was born, raised, and had lived in New York City.  She lived in Bergenfield prior to settling in Freehold Township to raise her family.  A woman of faith, Florence was a longtime parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold.  She was very active in 4H and was a true lover of music.  Along with her husband, Florence has a thirst of travel with a particular passion for Austria, where she and her husband spent months at a time, hiking and spending time with family.  Family meant so much to Florence and she took her role as caregiver seriously and without praise.  But nothing meant more to her than being called “Nema and Grandma”.

Florence was predeceased by her husband, Otto; sons, Richard Bauer and John Bauer; a grandson, Christopher Shellhamer; a daughter-in-law, Mary Bauer; a son-in-law, James Scambos; and a sister, Barbara Shrader. She is survived by two sons, Steve Bauer and his wife, Maureen and Robert Bauer and his wife, Robin; four daughters, Kathie Bauer, Deborah English and her husband, John, Patricia Bauer Scambos Knight and her husband, Rick, and Victoria Carrier and her husband, Michael; thirty-one grandchildren, Jason Webster and his wife, Jennifer, James Bauer and his wife, Jesenia, Sara Bauer, Rachel Paul and her husband, Harun, Michael Bauer, Kelly Bauer, Jeffrey Bauer and his wife, Edna, Emily Sheehan and her husband, Dewey, Kevin Bauer, Brian Bauer, John English and his wife, Kaycee, Kristen Drigon and her husband, Justin, Meghan Barbato and her husband, Anthony, Kathleen English and her husband, Vance Miller, Timothy English, Lauren English, Jessica English, Brian English, Deborah English, Paul Scambos and his wife, Kristen, Stephanie Kisor and her husband John, Cynthia Axt and her husband Corey, Caitlin Banks and her husband Mark, Meagan Hawkins and her husband, Johnny, Sam Knight, Jennifer Bower and her husband, Darrin, Michael Carrier, Lauren Rose Strickland and her husband, Zack, Tayler Carrier, Dale Carrier and Hailey Carrier; and thirty-seven great grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Arrangements by Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
