Obituary of Gilda Volpe

Gilda Volpe, 82, of Jackson passed away at home on Friday, December 1, 2023.  She was born, raised and lived in Brooklyn, moved to Freehold Township 2016 and settled here in 2018.  Prior to retiring, Gilda worked for the Board of Education in New York City as a cafeteria aide.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, cleaning and was a selfless woman who lived to care for others.  Gilda was a loving mother, sister and grandmother who treasured her role as “Grammy”. 

Gilda was predeceased by her parents, James and Jean Alfano; brother, James Alfano; and brother-in-law, Vincent LaBarbara.  She is survived by her daughter, Doris Jerome and her husband, Jean of Jackson; son, Michael Volpe and his wife, Susan of Brooklyn; four grandchildren, Kristen Smith, Alyssa Jerome, Amanda Volpe and Lindsay Volpe; sister, Luann LaBarbara of Jackson; and nephews.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, December 4, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a memorial service to follow.  For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
