Obituary of Miguel Rafael Sosa Mendoza

Miguel Rafael Sosa Mendoza (Mike), de Howell, falleció inesperadamente el lunes 8 de enero de 2024 en el Campus Sur del Centro Médico Monmouth, Lakewood, a la edad de 71 años. Nació el 26 de octubre de 1952 en Comayagüela, Honduras. Hijo de Manuel Esteban y Blanca Sosa, estaba muy orgullo de ser parte del clan Sosa Mendoza.

Miguel recibió su título de Ingeniero Agrónomo en Honduras. Emigró a Boston, Massachusetts en 1988 y años más tarde se mudó a Nueva Jersey, donde trabajó en el Laboratorio Agrícola de la Universidad de Rutgers.

Recordaremos a Mike por su conocimiento y amor por las plantas, su risa contagiosa y su sentido del humor. 

No olvidaremos su forma natural de contar historias, llenas de detalles y con hechos destacados para hacernos reír y escuchar. 

También recordaremos y admiraremos siempre la manera que tenía Miguel de involucrarse con aquellos que trabajan y viven sin la protección de las leyes de inmigración en EE. UU.  Siempre hacia un esfuerzo adicional por ellos; obteniendo consejería legal de parte de organizaciones que ayudan a los migrantes. No paraba hasta verlos con un empleo y un nivel de vida digna. 

Extrañaremos sus llamadas telefónicas solo para "check-in", su solidaridad, sus consejos y opiniones abiertas, y sus serias advertencias a aquellos que sentía que necesitaban ayuda.

Miguel fue precedido en la muerte por sus padres; su hermano, Roberto Pascual; y sus queridas tías, Tete y Tuty. 

Le sobreviven su hija, Celina Michelle Sosa Caballero; hermanos, Juan Manuel, Suyapa, Gustavo Adolfo, Manuel Esteban, Ana Jesús, José Napoleón, Carlos Antonio y Gerardo Enrique; sus primas, a quienes se refería siempre como sus hermanas, Mitty, Sonia y Celina Barrientos; su padrino, Wilfred Cisneros; un sin fin de familiares, incluyendo sobrinas y sobrinos en Honduras, Estados Unidos y Europa; además de amigos de toda la vida. 

El velorio se llevará a cabo en la funeraria Clayton & McGirr, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Ruta 524), Freehold Township el sábado 13 de enero de 2024 de 1:00 a 4:30 p.m. y su servicio funerario comenzará a las 4:30 p.m. El entierro será privado. Miguel Rafael Sosa Mendoza (Mike), of Howell passed away unexpectedly on Monday, January 8, 2024 at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, Lakewood, at the age of 71.

 He was born on October 26, 1952 to Manuel Esteban and Blanca Sosa in Comayagüela, H Miguel received his Bachelor’s degree as an Agricultural Engineer in Honduras. He immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1988 and years later, he moved to New Jersey, where he worked at Rutgers University’s Agricultural Laboratory.

We will remember Mike for his knowledge of and love for plants, his contagious laugh and his sense of humor.

We won’t forget his natural way of telling stories, full of details and with highlighted events to make us laugh and listen.

We will also remember and admire Miguel’s unsolicited involvement with those who worked and lived without the protection of immigration laws in this country.  He used to walk the extra mile for them, obtaining timely legal help from migrant aid organizations. He did not stop until he saw them employed, with decent living standards.

Miguel was predeceased by his parents, brother, Roberto Pascual; and beloved aunts, Tete and Tuty.

He is survived by his daughter, Celina Michelle Sosa Caballero; siblings, Juan Manuel, Suyapa, Gustavo Adolfo, Manuel Esteban, Ana Jesus, Jose Napoleon, Carlos Antonio and Gerardo Enrique; his first cousins, whom he referred to as sisters, Mitty, Sonia and Celina Barrientos; his Godfather, Wilfred Cisneros; other family members, including many nieces and nephews in Honduras, US and Europe; and life long friends.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1:00 to 4:30 PM with his funeral service to begin at 4:30 PM.
