Obituary of Charles Edwin Ligo
Charles Edwin Ligo, 83, of Freehold Township passed away at home on Friday, March 22, 2024. He was born in Fitkin Hospital, Neptune, NJ and raised in Avon-by-the-Sea. He had lived in Manchester Township before settling in Freehold Township in 1983. Charlie, as he was fondly known, served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1966. Continuing his commitment to service, in his early years, he was a former member of the Avon-by-the-Sea Fire Department and also served as a treasurer for the former Monmouth-Ocean Telephone Credit Union. He retired as a systems analyst for Verizon in 2003 but was then called back to work as a contractor for several more years to follow.
In acknowledgement of his exceptional versatility and ingenuity, he possessed a remarkable talent for remedying various challenges, ranging from minor household repairs to intricate automotive issues. Charlie undeniably personified the archetype of a polymath. Whether engaged in woodworking endeavors or adeptly troubleshooting domestic inconveniences, his boundless resourcefulness rendered him the primary authority sought for solutions to many dilemmas. Beyond his practical acumen, he enjoyed the peace and quiet, relishing moments of solitude enriched by his passion for literature. Charlie's benevolent nature shone through his countless acts of kindness, spoke volumes of his character.
He was predeceased by his son, Erich Ligo; sister, Marianne Stauch; and his niece, Beth Ann Stauch. Charlie is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Ligo; sons, Jason Ligo of Toms River, Jeffery Ligo and his wife, Sarah of Farmingdale, Kenneth Ligo and his wife, Angela of Myakka City, FL, and Stuart Ligo and his wife, Erica of Morrisville, PA; four grandchildren, Jeffery Jr., Autumn, Nathaniel, and Cora; sister, Barbara Ligo of Tinton Falls; and his nephews, Thomas Stauch and his wife, Louise of Jupiter, FL and Christopher Stauch of Georgia.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 6:00 PM.
