Obituary of Salvatore Castronovo
Salvatore Castronovo, 86, of Jackson passed away peacefully on Monday, April 1, 2024 at the Center for Hope Hospice and Palliative Care, in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Sal was born in Bagheria, in the province of Palermo in Sicily. He came to the United States in 1952 and settled in Brooklyn. Along with his wife, Dolores, they lived and raised their family there until moving to Jackson in 2002. With the ability to fix anything, Sal was the co-owner of Gal-Forn Motors in Brooklyn for over 25 years until his retirement in the Fall of 2000. In retirement, he couldn’t sit still and had worked for Lawn Doctor for the past 20 years as an assembler of equipment. As a man of faith, Sal was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6201. He had a passion for model trains and his 1967 Chevrolet. Yet, Sal was never prouder than being a devoted and loving husband as well as an adoring grandfather.
Salvatore was predeceased by his wife, Dolores and his sister, Patrizia Latona and her husband, Antonio. He is survived by his children, Santo Castronovo and his wife, Denise of Freehold Township, Nancy Faenza and her husband, Salvatore of Freehold Township, Filomena Castronovo of Jackson; grandchildren, Joseph and his fiancée, Natalie, Salvatore, Samuel, Nicholas, Michael, Valentina, and Eliana; a brother, Vincent Castronovo and his wife, Vincenza of Florida; his sister, Teresa Aiello and her husband, Vincenzo of Staten Island; and many nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, April 7, 2024 from 2:00 to 8:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 9:30 AM for the procession to his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
