Laura Chisholm

Obituary of Laura K. Chisholm

Laura K. Chisholm, 74, of Jackson passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024 after a brief illness.  Laura was born in Decatur, IL to Donald Jack Harlow and Kathleen Cecelia Boland, and lived in Neptune, Asbury Park, and Freehold before settling in Jackson in 1978.  Along with her husband, she was the owner of Aspen Tree Expert Co. Inc., in Jackson and had previously worked at Freehold Raceway.  Laura was generous with her time and had a servant’s heart, belonging to and serving behind the scenes in many organizations. She was the current President of the NJ Society of Tree Experts, license #343, a member of the NJAISA, and an organizer and co-chair of the New Jersey Tree Climbing Championship with her husband since 1985. Laura also served as a trustee on the Board of New Jersey Shade Tree Federation. She was the treasurer of Jackson Baptist Church for twenty years, as well as an active and vibrant participant in their music ministry, including the JBC choir and worship team.  She was musically inclined and sang in various rock and Christian bands throughout the years with her husband, and never passed up an opportunity to dance.  Laura was a treasured “Grammie”, spelling it this way as she was a young grandmother.  She enjoyed hosting and planning every holiday and special event.  Spending time in her backyard and being with her family was where she was happiest.

Laura is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Stephen M. Chisholm; sons, Stephen Chisholm, Jr. and his wife, Constance of Jackson and Mark Chisholm of Howell; grandchildren, Autumn Chisholm, Holly Simon and her husband, D.J., Alexandra “Lexi” Chisholm, Elizabeth “Libby” Chisholm and Richard Durst and his wife, Raina; two brothers, Barton Harlow and his wife, Dolores and Robert Harlow and his wife, Cathy Ann; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Chisholm-Edwards and her husband, Bruce of Neptune City and Carol Womick and her husband, Rob of North Carolina; and brother-in-law, Jon Chisholm and his wife, Pilnyo of North Carolina; and five nephews and two nieces.
