Obituary of Mike Sullivan

Robert “Mike” Sullivan, 87, of Freehold Township passed away at home surrounded by his wife and sons on Wednesday, July 31, 2024.  He was born in Fulton, NY and moved to Manalapan NJ in 1969 where he and wife Barbara raised their sons. Mike is a proud graduate of Union College in Schenectady NY, where he played football and lacrosse.   

Mike was well known in Western Monmouth County for his volunteering and giving back to his community. Far too many organizations to list but he was most proud of his work at CentraState Medical Center, The Walk with Joe and The Yorktowne Club. He owned Battleground Maintenance in Freehold. Mike enjoyed a good cigar, riding motorcycles, skiing, golfing and summering at Lake Ontario.  He was a voracious reader and loved the New York Football Giants. He was most happy and fulfilled when he was with his family.

Mike is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Barbara; sons, Michael, Ramona Beach, NY; Matthew (Elizabeth), Freehold, Daniel (Christine), Fair Haven and Timothy (Julie), Lavalette; eleven grandchildren, Brooke (Kaitlin), Kelsey, Ryan, Matthew (Monique), John (Hope), Daniel, Owen, Connor, Quinn, Reed and Maggie; three great grandchildren, Davis, Emory and Everett.    

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, August 4, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:30 AM Funeral Mass on Monday, August 5, 2024 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.
