Obituary of Jacqueline Elsie Ince
Jacqueline Elsie Ince, 95, of Ocean Township, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024. She was born in Woodbury, New Jersey to Casper Christian Howarth and Bertha (Lamson) Howarth and was raised on the family farm in Paulsboro, New Jersey. Jacqueline attended nursing school at Fitkin Hospital, while living in Neptune, New Jersey, where she met the man who she would later marry at a USO dance at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. She and Luther fell fast in love and shortly after, he was stationed across the country. Their relationship bloomed in their letters sent to each other, and upon his return to New Jersey they were married in 1950. After a five-week honeymoon, Luther was sent to Korea and unbeknownst to both, she was pregnant with her firstborn son. Jacqueline was a mother when her husband returned home to her. In the years following the war, she and her growing family were stationed all over the country and around the globe. In 1964, after 14 years of living in places as far away as Japan, her husband retired from his military service where they first met at Fort Monmouth. The Ince family then purchased what would become the family home in Ocean Township. In addition to raising four children, she worked as a nurse at the now named, Jersey Shore Medical Center. Jacqueline also worked as a night charge nurse in a local nursing home and was a nurse and assistant to oral surgeon Dr. Charles Trad. She was a talented seamstress and loved making and mending dresses. Jacqueline even worked part time for a local tailor. After raising their children she and Luther continued to travel in their Winnebago across the country camping, boating, and enjoying nature. After 34 years of marriage, Jacqueline’s life was forever changed when her husband passed in 1984. In the years that followed she moved to Florida to care for her ageing mother. While there she learned to play golf, bowled competitively in many leagues, and partied with all her neighbors who became dear friends. Jacqueline collected books and was a voracious reader, never to be found without a book nearby. At the age of 83, she returned to her home in Ocean Township to be with her family. If you ever needed “Jackie”, you only had to go as far as her front porch. In that spot, Jacqueline spent her golden years surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends old and new.
In addition to her husband Jacqueline was predeceased by her brother, Casper Robert Howarth in 2013, and her youngest son, Jay R. Ince in 2017. She is survived by her children, Larry Ince and his wife, Rujean of Sidell, Illinois; Michael Ince and his wife, Joyce of Chandler, Arizona; Peggy Ince of Woodbury Heights, New Jersey; and Cheryl Ann Ince of Ocean Township, New Jersey; her grandchildren, Jason Ince and his Fiancé, Sheri Turner of Danville, Virginia; Jacqueline (Ince) Cassin and her husband, Joe of Elmwood Park, Illinois; Michael Ince Jr. of Jackson, New Jersey; Thomas Ince of Apopka, Florida; Matthew Ince and his Fiancé, Dianna Shouse of Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Sarah M.
