Obituary of Richard John Lanza
Richard John Lanza, 70, of Manalapan, passed away unexpectedly on September 26, 2024. Born in Orange, he spent his early years in Colonia, later moving to Howell to raise his family before settling in Manalapan in 2001. Richard was a respected figure in the printing industry, beginning his career at Millburn Press, where he eventually became President and Partner. He concluded his distinguished career as a dedicated Estimator at Hatteras Press.
In addition to his work in printing, Richard was the proud owner of Lanza’s Martial Arts in Freehold, which he successfully ran for 24 years. He was a 7th-degree Black Belt, a testament to his lifelong dedication to the discipline and values of martial arts. He was also an enthusiastic runner, having completed multiple NYC and Boston marathons. He was deeply admired for his discipline, leadership, and passion in both his professional and personal endeavors.
Above all, Richard cherished his family. He found his greatest joy in being a devoted husband, father, and the most loving grandpa to his grandchildren. Whether it was baseball, dance, or basketball, you could always find him cheering them on from the sidelines, his heart full of pride. His love for his family was endless, and he lived each day to make them smile.
Richard embraced life’s simple joys in his free time. He found happiness in learning and teaching martial arts, cheering on the Giants, Mets, and Knicks, playing the guitar, practicing his faith, and enjoying a round of golf. Above all, he cherished time spent with his beloved grandkids. His warmth, unwavering support, and kind spirit touched everyone who knew him. Though his absence leaves a deep void in the hearts of many, Richard’s love and legacy will continue to live on forever.
He is predeceased by his beloved parents, Eugene and Juliet Lanza, and his cherished dogs, Champ and Anthony. Richard leaves behind his loving wife, Maria Lanza of Manalapan; his daughter, Nicole Lanza of Manalapan; his son, Richard Lanza, Jr. and wife Nicki of Howell; and his three precious grandchildren, Aria, Richard, and Dominic. He is also survived by his sister, Lissa Turk and her husband, Frank; his brother, Mark Lanza and wife, Robin; his faithful companion, Leo (Lucky-Leo); and many adoring nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Richard’s memory will be forever treasured by his family and all those who had the privilege to know him.
