Obituary of Joseph E. Mariconda
Joseph Edward Mariconda, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, at the age of 76. Born on October 30, 1947, Joseph lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Born and raised in Staten Island, Joseph attended Curtis High School, graduating in 1965. While in school, he developed a passion for sports, excelling on the baseball field and building a love for competition that stayed with him throughout his life. After graduation, Joseph joined the United States Coast Guard.
Following his service, Joseph dedicated his career to the safety and well-being of others as a member of the New York City Police Department, proudly protecting and serving his community for 15 years. He retired in 1984.
In 1970, Joseph married the love of his life, Michele, and together they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage. Their love and partnership were a cornerstone of their family, which grew to include two children and seven grandchildren: five granddaughters, Victoria, Lily, Julia, Nicolette, and Eliana; along with two grandsons, Christian and Dylan. They were undoubtedly the light of his life and he would talk about them relentlessly to anyone who would listen.
Joseph's interests were as varied as they were passionate. A devoted fan of the New York Rangers, he spent many hours pulling for them. He loved playing softball, enjoyed poker nights with friends and closely followed horse racing with an enthusiasm that was contagious. His love for sports extended beyond watching, as he stayed active and involved into his later years.
Joseph will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered for his giving heart, his love of life and the countless memories he created with those he loved. His family and friends will forever treasure the moments spent with him.
Joseph was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary. He is survived by his wife Michele, their two children: Joseph and his wife Jennifer, Gregg and his wife Pia; seven grandchildren; three sisters: Francis. (late husband Walter) Weiss, Roseann (Daniel) Boylan, Jean (Thomas) Ferrara, as well three nephews and two nieces.
