Emanuel Placakis, 91, of Freehold passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at home. He was born in Ziros, Greece, and had lived in Crete, Greece and Brooklyn, New York before settling in Freehold in 2022. Emanuel served in the United States Air Force for over 4 years during the Korean War, serving throughout the country. He worked for many years on Wall Street as a Financial Analyst, and was a proud member of the Cretan Brotherhood, eventually becoming President. Emanuel was a dedicated Church Board member and participated in the Choir at Kimisis Theotokou Church in Brooklyn. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Erofili Placakis; and brother, John Placakis and his wife, Anne. Emanuel is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mary Placakis; children, Nick Placakis and his wife, Angela and Irene Baginski; and grandchildren, Heather (Chris), Emanuel, Andreas, Maria-Elena, Nick, and Maria.

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, December 8, 2024 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:30 AM funeral service on Monday, December 9, 2024 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue, Ocean Township. Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold Township.
