Obituary of Cleta Doreen Yelder
Cleta Doreen Yelder, age 75, of Asbury Park, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 6, 2025, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Born on May 24, 1949, in Neptune, NJ, Cleta was the daughter of Claude and Nancy "Geraldine" Williams. She and her four siblings later moved to Freehold, NJ, where she would spend much of her life. Cleta was a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, and her passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Cleta was known for her resilience, intelligence, and inner beauty. She had a lifelong passion for music, science, and education. Throughout her career in the New York City school system, she served as an educator, administrator, and mentor. Her dedication to learning and teaching impacted countless students, leaving a lasting legacy of inspiration and growth.
Above all, Cleta’s greatest love was for her family. Her unwavering support and guidance were a constant source of strength and encouragement. After retiring, she moved to Asbury Park, NJ, to be closer to her son and grandchildren, finding peace and fulfillment in the company of her loved ones.
Cleta is survived by her son, William J. Yelder III of Freehold, NJ; daughter-in-law Reina M. Yelder of Freehold, NJ; daughter Ebony L. Yelder of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren Caleya Burton of Queens, NY, Cevon G. Taylor of Poughkeepsie, NY, Tyler N. Yelder, and Kennedy M. Yelder of Freehold, NJ; her sister, Jennifer Howard of New Brunswick, NJ; two great-grandchildren; and a host of dear friends and family who loved her deeply.
Cleta’s memory will live on through the love she shared with her family, the countless lives she touched through her work, and the strength and wisdom she imparted to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
