Condolences
I meet Jim in 1969 , he was the coach of my football team, the Bears,of the Knute Rockne football League ,in Bay Ridge.Playing for Jim was a great experience, he was a teacher of the game, and he had a passion for the game and was able to pass that on to his players. I don't remember our record that year or how we finished but i remembered Jim Savage!
I became a NYC firefighter in 1978, my first assignment was Eng 278 and upon entering quarters for the first time i meet Jim again! it was great he remembered me and was happy that a became a Firefighter, over the next several years he became a mentor to me and all the young guys in our company, Jim was a great Firefighter, he also organized softball games with the neighborhood and ran the company picnics and Christmas parties!
Ironicly we learned of his passing last nite at the Eng 278 holiday party, My condolences go out to the Savage Family, May he rest in Peace.
Words cannot express how grateful I was to have this man as my dad. He was the most unselfish person I ever knew. He would always be there when each of us needed him. He would paint, landscape and come to every soccer game and swim meet for my children. He was the greatest grandpa in the world. I will miss him very much but we all have a part of him in us. I love my brothers and sisters very much and we will always be there for each other because that is what my dad taught us. Family first. Goodbye daddy. We will all be together again some day.
I will never forget the first time I went to the Savage's house for one of their many family parties... it was more like an event! Jim always aimed to please and had crazy amounts of food, drinks and laughs ready to go for hours on end. I immediately loved this family and am proud to have become a part of it! Jim was and will continue to be the ultimate role-model, mentor and hero in our lives- his love for his family and friends was evident in all that he did. Although we are heartbroken that he is no longer here with us, we will smile because he would want us to. And we will make him proud and continue our family traditions as he would want and expect. We will forever love and miss you.
My condolences to the entire Savage family. James leadership in the St. Clare's Soccer club has enabled us to continue to serve the children of our parish with the foundation that he has built. Our deepest sympathy's are with you all. Warmest Regards, John Moschella and all the coaches, parents and volunteers from Great Kills Soccer Club (formrly St. Clare's Soccer)

Heaven now has another angel. He was taken way too soon but we are so blessed to have had such an amazing, special man in our lives. When you met Jim, you instantly liked him.His smile lit up a room. He was the best father, husband, father in-law and grandpa anyone could ask for.

Everyone who knew Jimmy loved him. He was funny, kind-hearted and loving. He was always there in time of need for everyone. He has now joined Tommy and Joe - may he rest in peace.
Mr. Savage was a great man. He was fun, authentic, witty and just...one of a kind. As his youngest daughter's best friend I feel privileged to have known such a genuine man and father. From busting my chops, to doing keg stands, to always being there for us- whether to paint or help us to move- he was awesome. I am thankful to him for making my best friend the woman she is! I loved him and I love all the savages- you guys are a wonderful family! I send my most sincerest and heartfelt condolences.
