Obituary of James Polon

JAMES A. POLON, Esq., 76, of FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, died Sunday, April 6, at home. Mr. Polon was born and raised in South River and had lived in East Brunswick before moving to Freehold Township in 1972. Mr. Polon received his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University, New Brunswick in chemistry. He was a chemist with Phillip Co. and Engelhard Corp., Edison, where he was inducted into American Men of Science and published in Who's Who in America. Mr. Polon received his law degree from Seton Hall University. During this time and throughout his life, he played the piano accordion for weddings and other functions both with a band and as a soloist. He served on the Freehold Township Planning and Environmental Boards. Mr. Polon was a member of the Monmouth-Ocean Bar Association and the Knights of Columbus Council 1672, Freehold. Mr. Polon practiced law for over 30 years in the area. He was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine Rittman Polon, in 1971; and a sister, Gloria. Surviving are his wife, Joy Polon; three sons, Mark Polon and Richard Polon, both of East Brunswick, and David Polon of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Joanne Miller of New Brunswick; a stepson, Gary London of Glencoe, Ill.; three stepdaughters, Carol Coleman of Smiths Grove, Ky., Jill Maguire of La Jolla, Calif., and Kim Lynch of Tinton Falls; a brother, Robert Polon of Spotswood; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
