Condolences
Joan/Andrew: back in 1970 Jack Hincliffee and I got involved in a very short car chase through NE WDC when the subject suddenly stopped and quietly surrendered. While I was parking the subject's car I found a German officers dagger above the drivers sun visor. While processing the subject back at WFO I mentioned to Lou that I had found a dagger with a swastika on the upper handle. He wanted know if it was wooden or plastic - I said wooden and he immediately offered to pay me $20 and that he collected German WWII "junk" as I would call it. He explained that wooden handle daggers were very hard to find and he had been searching for years for one.
I simply gave him the dagger - how good I take money from a guy who treated me so great out at the Manor CC?
I was wondering if you still had the dagger and if so may I have it with a promise that I will forward it on to another WFO retired agent after I pass on. My wife thinks I am nuts but I think it would be fun. Hope you guys are doing okay. Warmest regards.

I remember one time when Lou was working for Director Webster. At the time there was a threat on the Director and HRT was assigned as additional security. Lou was driving the Director in the bowels of JEH and somehow got turned around. At one point as he passed by us, he looked at me and just raised his hands in surrender! Lou was a prince of a guy and one I still miss. Bob Carlson
To Lou's Family, I worked with Lou at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA. My deepest sympathy. Lou was a fine gentleman and a very professional member of the FBI family. May he now rest in peace. Sincerely, Bill Guyton (1970-2003)
Lou- You will be missed but I'm sure you will join the rest of the WFO C-1 Squad in Heaven as again one of Nanna's Bananas. Flatly, BB, Jimmy Hill, Marty Hefren, Cal Ford, Grover "bullet" Martin, George Sullivan, Jack Hinchcliff, and many others will be there to greet you and trade war stories. Condolences to the Padula family. Wayne Gilbert (65-93)
My sincere condolences to the Padula family. Your dad was a real character and a great guy. I remember one time when your dad was driving Director Webster home and got a little confused in the FBIHQ basement. I was on a security detail for the Director and watched your dad pass by us at least 3 times! The last time your dad just raised his hands in surrender! He was a good guy and great with a story. I will miss him very much. Bob Carlson '79-'06
Andrew: when I arrived at WFO in 1968 I sat beside your father for nearly three years. As new guys are not easily accepted it was your dad who made me and all the other new guys most welcome. He was always there to help us who were working bank robberies and he never shied away from getting involved in our cases. I played golf with him many times at Manor CC. In 1988 he came to Miami with the Director, called me and had me come to the office for a photo session with Judge Sessions. He presented me with a new Manor CC coffee cup which I treasure. Your dad was truly one of the "good guys". Bill Hayes Miami
Dear Lou, You were the FBI SWAT program's first logistician. Without your efforts the program may not have survived. You equipped the agents in those critical early days and you kept us warm, protected and clothed. In Heaven, you will be united with loved ones that have gone on before you and you will also see many of the grateful agents that you helped and supported. You may not have been sufficiently recognized for your crucial work, but my hat is off to you and I hope I join you in Heaven when its time for me to make the last run? My deepest condolences to Lou's family. Sincerely, Bob taubert FBI 1962 - 1971
