Obituary of John Horner
JOHN "JACK" A. HORNER, 79, of MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, died Friday, May 9 at the Van Dyke Hospice Unit of Community Medical Center, Toms River, peacefully with his children at his side. Mr. Horner was born in Lakewood, and lived in Howell and Lakewood most of his life except for spending some time in Atlanta, Ga., and moving to Manchester seven years ago. Jack was self employed as a contractor/builder until his retirement. He was also a saw mill owner/operator, farmer, and owner and trainer of standard bred horses in Howell. From 1963 to 1965, he was a building inspector for the state of New Jersey. He was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during Korea.
Surviving are two sons and their spouses, John A. "Tripp" and Trudi Horner III, of Toms River, Charlie and Leslie Horner, of Howell; two daughters and their spouses, Jeanine E. and Mauro Raccuglia, of Howell, Jacquie and Mike Revier, of Howell; sister, Margaret Lou Potter-MacFarlane, of Toms River; a brother, William Horner of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 11 Grandchildren, Heather, Amanda, Matthew, Jacqulynn, Douglas, Mario, Joseph, Mickey, Jeannie, Katie, and Joseph William; three great-granddaughters; his best friend, Vance Taylor, of Atlanta, Ga., and his faithful dog, "Buddy."
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Clayton and McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Route 524, Freehold Township. His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hope Presbyterian Church, 617 Hope Chapel Road, Lakewood. Burial will take place at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, at a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jack Horner Memorial Fund at Hope Presbyterian Church or the Van Dyke Hospice Unit at Community Medical Center, 99 Rt. 37 West, Toms River, NJ 08755.
