Obituary of Catherine Duke-Berkowitz
CATHERINE DUKE- BERKOWITZ, 95, of HOWELL, died Sunday, May 11, at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Duke-Berkowitz was born and lived in Bronx, N.Y. before moving to The Villages, Howell 30 years ago. She was a member of the Howell Senior Center and also the Women's Club at The Villages. She enjoyed cooking, knitting and being with family and friends. Catherine was a clerk for the McGraw-Hill Publishing Company, Manhattan before retiring in 1965.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Thomas Duke; her second husband, Abraham Berkowitz; a son, Thomas Duke Jr.; and a son-in-law, Joseph Godish. Surviving are a daughter, Mary Ann Godish of Cream Ridge, Upper Freehold Township; six grandchildren, Catherine and Bill Ivins of Levittown, Pa., Thomas and Diane Godish of Levittown, Pa., and James and Daryl Godish of Highland Park; and five great-grandchildren, Joseph, Brittany, Sean, Isabella, and Benjamin.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends may gather at 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by her 10 a.m. Funeral Mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, McLean Street, Freehold. Entombment will follow in Holy Cross Burial Park, South Brunswick.
