Obituary of Robert Hurley
Robert E. Hurley, 81, of Farmingdale passed away at home on Sunday, July 6, 2014. Bob was a resident of Farmingdale for the last 58 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was a master auto mechanic known in the community as someone young men could come to for advice on fixing and maintaining their cars. Bob was an avid Nascar fan and Bill Elliot was his favorite driver. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 and was stationed in Germany.
Bob was predeceased by his mother and father, Edward and Sophie Hurley; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, C.D. and Jackie Reid; his brother-in-law, Edward Reid; and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lisle and her children, Tim Lisle and Barbara Sparks. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Reid Hurley; one son, Robert E. Hurley, Jr. and his wife, Debra and their children, Elizabeth, Madeline and Nicholas of Rougemont, North Carolina; one daughter, Susan C. Hurley and her sons, Wayne Lipman III and Joshua Lipman of Howell; his brother, Richard L. Hurley and his wife, Joan of Wall; and many nieces and nephews. Weather permitting, Bob would be riding his scooter in town to have lunch with his friends.
A memorial gathering will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Farmingdale on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 6:00 PM. The arrangements are under the direction of the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, Freehold Township.
