Obituary of Joseph Schollenberger
Joseph Schollenberger, 88, of Monroe Township passed away at home on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Joseph was born in Howell Township and had lived in Atlantic Highlands before moving to Rossmoor in Monroe Township in 2008. He was a graduate of Freehold High School and attended Asbury Park Business College. Joseph proudly served his country as a United States Navy Electronics Technician Mate. He served as a Councilman for the NJ Division of Fish and Game 1968-1972. From 1995-1998, Joseph was on the Board of Directors for Ground Round Restaurants. He also served as a Cubmaster for Boy Scouts. Joseph was employed by a large commercial fishing company with operations along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts for 25 years. He began as an office clerk and advanced through various positions to Vice President of Operations. Prior to his 2006 retirement, Joseph was employed by Great South Beach Improvement Company as Developer of Rehoboth Beach Yacht and Country Club in Delaware. He was a man of many interests and hobbies including antique cars, camping, gardening, hiking, and square dancing.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 39 years, Edna; four children, a daughter, Cathy Novicky; three sons, Joseph Schollenberger, Jr., Lawrence Schollenberger and Peter Schollenberger; four step children, Jeannette Lichowid, Annalynn Zullo, E. Thomas Cooper and Karen Reardon; fifteen grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Amelia Ballard; and one brother, Albert Schollenberger.
Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, July 20, 2014 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:30 AM funeral service on Monday, July 21, 2014 at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
