Obituary of Curtis Havens
CURTIS W. HAVENS, 81, of BRIELLE, died Thursday, May 29, at home. Mr. Havens was born in Brielle and was a lifelong resident. Curtis W. Havens was the great-grandson of Curtis Havens, owner of the Havens Homestead in the Herbertsville section of Brick, now "Havens Homestead Museum." He was a graduate of Manasquan High School. Mr. Havens was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II as a frogman. Curtis was a home builder prior to receiving his Bachelor's degree from Monmouth College, Long Branch, and a Master's degree from Georgian Court College, Lakewood. He was a teacher of World Literature and retired as the chairman of the English Department at Point Pleasant Borough High School in 1989. He was a member of the Brick Township Historical Society and was the proud owner of his restored 1934 Oldsmobile Touring Coup.
He was predeceased by his wife, Violet, in February 2005. Surviving are a daughter, Janet Siegfried of Point Pleasant Borough; Carol Bennett of Brielle, who was like a daughter; a sister, Dorothy VanSchoick of Jersey Shore, Pa.; many nieces and nephews; and Jonathan Elmer, who was like a nephew.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 2 p.m. today at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road, Freehold Township. Interment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.
