Condolences
Love and prayers to all Dr. Dovel's family and friends. I had the good fortune of being one of Dr. Dovel's patients when I was a young man. His kindness, intelligence and thoughtfulness was very helpful to me. He was a great doctor and friend I will always look upon his memory with love.
Hello Dovel family this is Scott Brodsky and I was a patient of John! I have to say he was one of my favorite therapists of all time!!! I remember he use to buy me Chinese food almost every time I had an appointment with him and I really love and appreciate that!!! He was also very accommodating with my handicapped father when he wanted to join in our sessions!!! Thank you John Dovel for everything and I miss you very much!!! May heaven shine on you always!!!
John was one of the most respectful people I have had the pleasure to know. We worked together in Long Branch School system for over a decade and his wonderful sense of humor was a great copmpliment to his sensitivity and wisdom. So often he spoke of his wife and children-makes me smile to know he is at peace.
To John's family, our heartfelt prayers and love to all at this very sad time. We are sad but relieved that John is now with the Lord and hopefully watching over his family and fraternity brothers that cared so much for him. Many happy memories abound of good times at Washington and Lee and in the PSI Upsilon Fraternity. Our deepest sympathy to you Barbara and the children. Mark and Mckayla Braden
I knew John Dovel for 24 years, since I was 10 years old. He helped my family in ways that are incalculable. He was a kind, compassionate, joyful man in a field that encouraged emotional detachment. This is a rare thing, and part of what made him so special. He was more than a doctor, he was a friend. I will miss him dearly, and my thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
My thoughts and prayers are with the Dovel family. I knew Johnny in high school and remember what a wonderful person he was. He will certainly be missed.
Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.Although no words can really help to ease the loss you bear, just know that you are very close in every thoughts and prayers.
Deepest Condolences from myself and the family. John was a wonderful man. I will never forget how he, and the family, had helped me.
To Barbara Lawrence & family I was truly saddened to hear of John's passing. We worked together so many years in the School Based Youth Services Program in Long Branch, to help some of the most needy children/families in this town. Then we met your lovely family & connected for natural foods. Our thoughts & prayers are with you for peace,in memory of this strong but gentle man.
John was always there for my family as well as for us. He was a rock when we needed him the most. To his family we offer our condolences and hope you find comfort in knowing that he helped so many kids and families. Yes he did his job but that job was 24/7 to the people he helped and who needed his guidance. We will alwways remember John for his unconditional love, compassion, and understanding. Thank you, John, for all the good you did and the difference you made in so many lives.
My deepest sympathies to the entire Dovel family during this time. I had seen Johnny a few years back at one of our high school reunions, but my memories of him stretch back to the days when we all attended Johnson School and I have would visit the family home on Stribling Ave. so we could play. It so saddens me to hear of his passing.
To the Dovel family, I was shocked to learn of Johnny's passing when I read my paper tonight. The miles and years have separated us for quite some time now. I have very fond memories of our time on Stribling Ave. One of my favorite memories as a kid was being allowed to sit on the carport and listen to Johnny and his friends practice their "combo" from the basement. I believe they were called the Undertakers. I did not know Johnny as a professional, but I do remember a heck of a nice guy. Those are the memories I will keep. Rest in peace. Over the years I have been in countless meetings with John and found him to be a thoughtful, soft spoken and gentle guy who had the student at heart. John you will be sorely missed. A Friend, Dan
Barbara and family, Please know that we send our love and prayers during your loss. We remember John as being such an kind guy, his smile just lit up his face and those around him. Praying God's comfort for you all now.
Our deepest sympathy and condolences to all of the family. John was a very special friend and an important person in our lives for many years. The world will not be the same without him.
I was very saddened to hear of John's passing. Words are inadequate at a time like this but as the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote of his friend John Keats; " Peace, peace, he is not dead nor does he sleep...he has awakened from the dream of life." My sincere condolence to his family and friends.
John, my kind, wise supervisor from so many years ago. We had fun that year as you helped me understand what it meant to be a psychologist and I helped you understand the culture of the NY/NJ families who were "my people" but most definitely not like your people from the land of the Waltons! Seeing your picture makes me smile. It was a great internship experience very much because of your generous spirit as a mentor. You will be missed.
Mary and I wish to extend our deepest sympathies and condolences. John was one of my oldest friends and I will miss him greatly. He was a kind and gentle man.
Our deepest sympathies to your family. John was such a gentle person who will surely be missed.
We know that it's been a tough year for you guys...., wish that we were there right now to offer you FAMILY hugs...., he was a truly special guy! Ironically, Thanksgiving is always a time of year that the Dovel part of the family comes to my mind because of past VERY LARGE family gatherings! They LOVED an excuse to pull out the stops...., COOK for the gang & entertain! Truly Southern Hospitality. We love you, Mary, Bill, Sydney, Lexi and Miranda
Our prayers are with you all. The pictures are such great reminders of John's vitality! What a testament that he has shown such grace, wisdom, humor and compassion in so many ways: as a father, husband, "Pop", brother, son, mentor, friend, counselor, and colleague. He has been an inspiration and a blessing to many and will not be forgotten. Much love, Edward and Carolyn
My thoughts and prayers are with your family. He was a very special person.
May you rest in peace, John. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers! -Bill
John will be missed ... an adult man among boys, a friend, voice of reason. It's been over 40 years, but he was so important then that he is important now. My prayers for him and his family
