Obituary of John Dovel PhD

Dr. John Charles Dovel passed away on November 3, 2014 at his home in Freehold Township, New Jersey. John was born and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA with a degree in psychology. His graduate work was done at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. John was a licensed clinical psychologist in both New Jersey and North Carolina. He maintained a private practice in Red Bank, New Jersey for 35 years. John was a past president of the Monmouth - Ocean Psychological Association. His work with children and families has had a positive impact on many lives and the entire community. John was a proud, loving father, grandfather, and husband. He was a friend to many who will miss him sorely. John is predeceased by his father, mother, and stepmother. He leaves behind his wife of 32 years Barbara Lawrence, his daughter Erin Lawrence Dovel of Ewing, NJ, his son Tyler Lawrence Dovel of Junction City, KS, his grandson Riley Blake Talerico-Dovel, and sisters Frankie Dovel Morris of Charlottesville, VA and Julia Dovel Fahey of Apex, NC. John also leaves behind his partners from Psychotherapy Associates of Red Bank, friends , neighbors and extended family, all of whom were instrumental in his end of life transition. A gathering and memorial service will be held at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Saturday November 8, 2014 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM.
