Obituary of Raymond Ganslen
Raymond H. Ganslen, 90, a lifetime resident of Farmingdale, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 9, 2014. His final home was within 1000 feet of his birth to the late Charles and Bertha Ganslen. Raymond served his country Honorably in the United States Navy during World War II, and later in the Naval Air Reserves at Lakehurst for about six years. He was called up for a year of active duty during the Berlin Crisis of 1961, which extended into the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, when he hunted subs while flying out of Guantanamo.
For most of his career, Raymond was the primary realtor for Farmingdale and neighboring Howell Township as owner and broker of R.H. Ganslen Real Estate Agency. Raymond held several key posts in the Farmingdale Chamber of Commerce and was active in the Holy Name Society at his parish church of St. Catherine of Siena in Farmingdale. He was additionally a Code Enforcement Officer for Farmingdale, and Building Inspector for Howell Township, NJ. An avid golfer, Raymond also owned the Five of Clubs Golf Shop adjacent to the Eagle Oaks Country Club. He maintained his private flying license and flew until he was 87.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 69 years, Eleanor Ganslen of Farmingdale, his sons Kenneth Ganslen (Hinton, WV) and Stephen Ganslen (Farmingdale, NJ), and daughters, Lora Murphy along with her husband Richard (Walkersville, MD) and Lisa Recupero along with her husband Darren (Summit, NJ). Three grandchildren and two great-granddaughters additionally survive him: Justin and Ryan Recupero, and Jennifer Burns along with her daughters Josephine and Shannon. In addition to his parents, Raymond was pre-deceased by his son, Thomas, and three brothers, Richard, Norman, and William Ganslen.
A receiving of friends will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, November 13, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 11:00 AM memorial service on Friday, November 14, 2014 at the funeral home. Inurnment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
