Obituary of Shirley Griffin

Shirley R. Griffin, 94, of Farmingdale died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at St. Barnabas Hospice Palliative Care Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was born in Matewan, West Virginia and moved to Farmingdale in 1951. Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Farmingdale. Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Joseph Griffin in 1981, and a son, Timothy Griffin in 2010. She is survived by three sons, Michael E. Gallagher of Farmingdale, Billy Joe Griffin of Rotonda West, Florida, and Steven L. Griffin of Farmingdale; one daughter, Sharon L. Whatley of Santa Ynez, California; ten grandchildren, Steven H. Whatley of Portland, Oregon, Kirsten Whatley-Rutiz of Maui, Hawaii, Robert G. Presley of Rock Hall, Maryland, Catherine P. O'Donnell of West Long Branch, Joseph W. Griffin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tara G. Plakyda of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Brian M. Griffin of Roselle Park, John T. Griffin, Esquire of Sarasota, Florida, Karen G. Ganley of Neptune, and Dakota J. Griffin of Point Pleasant; fourteen great grandchildren, Christal Miller, Terra Collins, Bobby and Timothy Presley, Bryan, Matthew, Carolyn & Katie O'Donnell, Joseph & Julie Griffin, Josie Lynn & Donovan Plakyda, Trevor & Kaitlyn Griffin; four great grandchildren, Sydney and Savannah Miller, and Corbett and Hayden Collins; a sister, Marie Smith of West Virginia; and a brother, William Rucker of Ohio. Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, March 2, 2012 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon with her funeral service to follow at 12:00 Noon with the Rev. Dr. Wayne Richards officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale.
