Condolences
I am very sad to hear about your Dad’s passing. He was always a very special person to me. He was the only father of any of my friends who actually had fun with us! My kids will be forever be indebted to him because of the Sock Game your Dad played with us, and I taught my kids (which they still talk about)! I haven’t seen him in 2 or 3 years, but he too was the kind of person that when you met again, it felt like it was only yesterday when you last saw each other. I am so thankful I got to have him in my life.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Judy. Seth was a dear friend and we too will miss him.
Sorry to hear about Seth's passing. I met him many years ago at his house and immediately had a great time with him. Just a fun guy, who removed a rafter so he could practice his golf swing and put a urinal in the downstairs bathroom. I knew he was a winner in 5 minutes. Enjoyed the time with him out in Montana. We can all learn something from him,I know I did.
I grew up an only child in a remote farm in Maryland. My dream was to someday have a large family and I do (a husband, four daughters, four sons-in-law, 10 grandchildren). There are now 20 of us when we gather for reunions or holiday celebrations. It's a dream come true.
I also have "sisters" and "brothers", folks in my life who are as near and dear as blood relatives.
One of them was Seth Harter, a smart, hard-working, joyful and exuberant man who lived life large and sadly passed away on September 14.
Seth was our neighbor for 28 years while we lived in Holmdel, NJ, and a part-time neighbor here in North Carolina since 1986 when we bought our first condo and later, built a house. His wife Judy and I are close friends and occasional bridge partners. When our kids were little, their three daughters (Sue, Linn and Mary) were our baby-sitters. Mary, the youngest, often traveled with us when we went to Florida to visit Gene's parents.
Seth was a pilot in the Air Force and later, he started his own business, Harter Equipment. They sold bulldozers and backhoes and various kinds of construction equipment. The Harters owned several acres of land directly across the street from us and Seth sometimes brought home one of his full-sized Tonka Toys for a project. He rerouted the creek in his back yard, put in a tennis court, later, a swimming pool, gardens and pathways.
He loved working outdoors and helped us install a new septic system when ours bogged down.
Our daughters loved Seth. He and Judy were god-parents to Terri, our youngest. Kim worked for him one summer when she was in college. He always spoke to them like they were valuable people and they responded in kind. When the grandchildren arrived, the tradition continued.
Seth and Gene often flew down to Ocean Isle Beach in his Cherokee Six to play golf. They had many adventures. Once the fuel line froze up over the Chesapeake Bay and Seth calmly switched over to gravity feed and the engine started right up again. No big deal, he said to my nervous husband.
Seth was a hero to us all as he battled prostate cancer over several decades. He'd get a flare- up, have radiation or surgery, more chemo and before you knew it, he was off on another adventure to Europe or China or Mexico. Nothing slowed the man down; he always had something new in the works. He never complained, just enjoyed life to the fullest.
Now, sadly Seth's life here on earth is over, but I'm sure that somewhere, Seth's new adventure has begun. He's probably bulldozing a garden in heaven or telling St. Peter just where to plant the lilies.
We are saddened that our dear Uncle Seth has passed away. Our family sends our sympathies to yours, Aunt Judy, Sue, Linn, Mary, Marysol, and Doug. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this time. May our many memories of countless good times in Uncle Seth's presence, hearing his abundant laughter, sharing his sense of fun, and witnessing his zest for life, sooth us at this time in our grief. We cherish these many memories. We are grateful at such times to have the loving binds of family to support us. Bless you and keep you now and always.
I thought that he was indestructible, my Uncle Bill. From the black and white photo of him wth the Sabre Jet displayed at his Madison Park, NJ home; to digging his own swimming pool and grading his own tennis court at Stoecker Road, Holmdel; to climbing ladders and painting at the Lavalette shore house; to piloting us up the Hudson River flyway along the skyscraper tops of Manhattan; to boating and camping on Lake George, NY; to building the Trail Creek, MT site; and all of those other projects. There seemed to be no task which was out of his reach and his energy seemed boundless to me. I look back now and realize that there are so many activities and places which Bill and Judy introduced my family to, in our growing up years and which I've later repeated with my next generation family.
My Uncle Bill was a great man and an inspiration and guidepost for me, both as a man and as an example of a father. It was an honor, a blessing and an education to know him. I believe that it is more than a coincidence the he and I both have three daughters! I am so grateful that my girls got to know his good humor and his great generosity, in his lifetime on more than a few occasions.
All of our love and sympathies go out to our dear Aunt Judy and to my three great cousins, who are Bill and Judy's legacy to the world. We will miss Uncle Bill and remember him with love and a laugh, until we see him again. With love, Dan, Emily, Olivia and Julia Campbell

Dear Judy and Daughters:
Roland and I wish to convey our condolences. Seth was always a gentleman, from the Board Room of the YMCA to the golf course when we enjoyed a round of golf in NC. His sense of caring and all that he gave to the community will truly be missed and I thank him for his service and support.
We are very fortunate to have known Seth and privileged to have called him our friend. His presence in our lives will be missed. Our deepest sympathy to Judy and his girls. You were truly blessed.
Deepest sympathies to the entire Harter family. Life is meant to be enjoyed and it's clear that your dad did just that with his family! I always think of good times when I pass by the business on 33. Great memories~Joan Sharpe Speranza and family

Seth will be missed by all who knew him. He brought the joy of life to family, friends, and all that came in contact with him. He and his family are in our prayers.
I had the privilege to work with Seth at the YMCA. He not only volunteered but was a true supporter of the YMCA. He gave much guidance to me which was always appreciated. I send my thoughts and prayers to Judy and his daughters. Sincerely Cynthia
My condolences to the Harter family on the loss of Seth. He was a successful business man and overall fine gentleman who I had the privilege of getting to know over the years through his business and as a board member for YMCA of W. Monmouth County. Seth will be missed greatly.
Mary, Linn, and the Harter family, I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Through Cherry's email this morning, I came to learn what a loving, fun, passionate, heartful presence Seth was in this world. We were all fortunate to have him here. I wish you peace. With Love, Lynn
Seth Harter was a great outdoorsman, adventure seeker, hard working father and husband, and an incredible "playmate" for his daughters. I know that the girls all adored him. They went on trips together all over the world and each embodies a part of his spirit. Mary, in particular, was so inspired by his love of nature, his sense of adventure, and his athleticism,(not to mention his sense of humor),that she has created a lifestyle for herself that will assure that his legacy continues. Seth introduced Mary to the Wild West when she was a very young girl, and I believe she fell in love with that part of the country while by his side. Sue, the amazing business person that she is, has been running Harter Equipment for years. I know that he had to have been very proud of her. She has followed in his footsteps in such a profound way!Linn, also an avid outdoors-person and nature lover, lives and works in the cabin that Seth himself helped visualize and build many years ago. The property, home, and surroundings, are a slice of heaven that made Seth happy and Linn will forever be the caretaker of those years of his life and the memories. In fact, the last time I spent time with him was at Linns wedding to Doug at the Trail Creek cabin in Montana. They were all truly blessed to have shared life with their dad. Mrs Harter has been consistently kind and such a trooper, willing to rise to any and every circumstance and occasion since I met her in the '70's. I've always thought that the Harter girls are lucky to have such a COOL mom!!! Lots of love to a family that has truly inspired me over the years. Cherry
A generous joyful man who served many years on the board of the.YMCA. it was a pleasure to serve with him..rest in peace. Agnes Mc Kim
So sorry about " Mr. Harter" better known as Seth in my older years! He will be missed by all and will give you all plenty of stories and memories that will go on forever! Knowing him for most of my life...it's still hard to think that he is no longer here! He was such a fun man and always willing to do whatever ! He will be having fun upstairs with all who has gone before him! I'm sure him and Bob will be sharing some golf stories! So sad!
Seth gave me my interview for the Y Board. And that was almost twenty years ago. He was a wonderful man and a real gentlemen. Thoughts and prayers go out the entire Harter Family. Jacqueline Preston
Sincere condolences to Mrs. Harter, Sue and all Seth's family. Seth was a long time friend and supporter of the YMCA of Western Monmouth County and other Monmouth County charitable organizations, and he will be greatly missed. His savvy business sense was always welcomed to his fellow Board members during the growing years of the Y. And so were his jokes. Rest in peace, brother Seth.
