Obituary of Mary Matthews
Mary "Sue" Matthews, 89, passed away with her daughter at her side on Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Runk and Pratt Adult Residential Care, Forest, VA. Mary was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Louis and Eleanor Will. She lived in New Jersey for many years before retiring to Sebastian, FL in 1982 where she lived for 23 happy years before moving to Virginia in 2005 to be closer to her children.
Mary graduated from St. Basil's Grade School, Carrick High School and the Robert Morris Business College, all of Pittsburgh. She was a member of the Shark River Hills Ladies Auxiliary, Neptune and the Court St. Elizabeth Catholic Daughters of America. Mary was the first President of the Altar and Rosary Society at Holy Innocents Catholic Church, Neptune, NJ. She was a homemaker and also worked in the Admitting Office at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and retired as the Credit Manager. Mary was a devoted wife, mom and gram and will be forever missed.
Mary was predeceased by her "Sweetie" of 62 years, Cecil Matthews in 2006; four sisters, Sister Eleanor Will RSM, Jeanne, Rita, and Vera; three brothers, Louis, Walter and Roger. She is survived by her children, David and his wife, Lori of Appomattox, VA, Karen Burroughs and her husband, Bruce of Moneta, VA and Robert and his wife, Kathleen of Eatontown, NJ; seven grandchildren, John, Joel, Jack, Jennifer, Robert, Amy and DC; eight great grandchildren, Rebecca, Aidan, Alexis, Aaron, Crystal, Michael, Rob and Caitlyn; a great great grandson, Daunte; a sister Eileen Will of Lodi, CA; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary's family would like to thank the Runk and Pratt Senior Living for the love, care and concern given to Mary for the past two and a half years and Seven Hills Hospice for their concern and care given to our Mom.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Sunday, June 3, 2012 from 12 Noon to 4:00 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 8:45 AM on Monday, June 4, 2012 at the funeral home for the procession to Holy Innocents Catholic Church, 3455 West Bangs Ave., Neptune, NJ for her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in Monmouth Memorial Park Cemetery, Tinton Falls.
