Obituary of Herbert Frey
Herbert "Herb" G. Frey, 81, of Freehold, died Thursday, April 30, 2009, at home. Mr. Frey was born and raised in Northampton, Pa. and had lived in Wallington before moving to Freehold in 1970. Herb was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in occupied Japan. He was a graduate of Rutgers University, School of Agriculture, Class of 1952. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha (Social Fraternity) and Alpha Zeta (Academic Fraternity). Mr. Frey was the Vice President of Production and associated with Julius Roehrs Company, Farmingdale for over 50 years. He was responsible for orchestrating their move from Wallington to Farmingdale. Mr. Frey was a member of the Ardena Baptist Church, Howell, and a former treasurer of the Trustees. Herb was also a member and two-time past president of the Howell Township Lions Club and was a Melvin Jones Fellow. Mr. Frey was the former director of the New Jersey Plant and Flower Growers Association and the recipient of their 1981 Golden Flower Award. He was a former director, president and secretary of the New Jersey State Florist Association, where he was instrumental in starting the N.J. Flower Show. Herb loved spending time at Twin Lakes.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth Frey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert M.H. and Sara Frey of Pittsburgh, Pa., and John H. and Beth Frey of Allentown, Pa.; three grandchildren, Jessica, Steven, and Megan; a brother-in-law, Elwood Frey of Allentown, Pa.; and a nephew, William Frey and his wife Olivia of Washington, D.C.
Visiting hours will be from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 3 at Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday, May 4 at the Ardena Baptist Church, 589 Adelphia Road, Howell. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
