Obituary of W. David Casey
W. David Casey, III, 74, of Howell passed away at home on Monday, January 25th. He was a licensed marriage and family counselor and school psychologist. Born in Perth Amoy, he moved to Manasquan as an adult. After receiving his Master's Degree from Seton Hall University, he worked in numerous school districts throughout the state, including Atlantic Highlands, Lakewood and Summit. He was a member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists. He operated his private practice, South Monmouth Counseling, for 20 years in Manasquan before relocating to Howell in 2002. He took great pride in his practice, learning new counseling techniques and helping many people discover that "love is not a word but an action," as he liked to say.
David enjoyed outdoor activities throughout his life. His family summered in Manasquan where he won fishing contests. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during Korea. He became a meteorologist when he joined the Navy after high school. In his forties, he took up jogging and ran several marathons. He learned to scull at the age of 70 and he was the oldest member of the Navesink River Rowing Club for the past 4 years. He also participated in numerous backpacking trips with the Sierra Club, was an avid gardener and always had roses growing in the backyard.
David is survived by a wife, Barbara Theis, of Howell; a son, William David Casey IV, of Queens, NY; a daughter, Dr. Moira Casey, of Oxford, OH; his sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Hugh Flannery of Manasquan; a stepson, David Theis, of Farmingdale; a stepdaughter, Shelley Savoye, of Brick Twp.; 3 grandchildren and 3 nephews.
Visiting at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Twp. on Wednesday, January 27th, from 2-4 & 7-9 PM. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Thursday at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell. Interment will follow in Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown, NJ. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's memory may be made to either the NJ Sierra Club, 145 West Hanover St., Trenton, NJ 08618 or to Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, 1275 York Ave., New York, NY 10065 and would be appreciated.
