Condolences
I am very saddened to hear of the passing of Val. Val was one of the really good guys. I lived with Val in New London, Connecticut for period while we served on the USS U.S. Grant. I remember going to Dunoon with Val in Scotland. Val gave me rides from Connecticut to the Philadelphia area in his brown van. Very sorry to hear that he has passed. My condolences to his family.
My deepest sympathies to you, Elena and Joanna. You and the girls will be in my prayers.
Suzanne, I was so very sad to hear of Val's passing. I am so sorry that I was not able to attend the services. If there is anything I can do... if you need someone to talk to, please, please, do not ever hesitate to call me day or night. You are all in our continued prayers. Val was a wonderful, beloved man and we will all miss him very much. Memory Eternal!
I remember Val's warm smile last April when I visited NAB2010 in Las Vegas. The same smile I saw when we first met at the exhibition in Seoul Korea in 2008. I also expected to see him at coming IBC in Amsterdam. He was always energetic, gentle and positive. The news of Val's passing shocked me and broke my heart at the thought of not being able to see him again. I'd like to pay my deepest condolences to his friends and family...
To Suzanne, Elena, and Joanna, Extending our heartfelt sympathy on the tragic and untimely loss of your beloved husband and father. The overflow crowd at your beautiful church was a testament to what a special person Val was. In our faith (Jewish) we believe that people live on in the memories of those who loved them and whose lives they touched. It is clear that Val's memory will endure . Love from Jane and Bob

What can be said about the loss so sudden of such a lovely man such as Val. Working with Val at Harris was always a pleasure and I will miss him a lot. Val always had a calming and steadying influence on anything we were involved with, for me it was mostly tradeshows and roadshows which can so often be very pressurised environments. What a lovely and kind man gone from us and I send you my deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers for your loss. Val will be remembered very fondly indeed.
I was very saddened to hear of Val's passing and would like to extend my deepest sympathies to his family.
To the Schumakoff Family, condolences on Vals passing. It was an honor to know him.May the comfort of God help you during this difficult time.
Dear Suzanne, Elena, and Zhanna, We are so sorry Val had to leave so soon. Not many good and kind people like Val come along in a lifetime. It has been an honor to have known him since childhood. Take care of yourselves. Val will continue looking out over all of you forever. God Bless you all. Love, George, Lyn, Lara and Kira
From CALA Team our most sincere condolences.
Dear Schumakoff family, We were privileged to work with Val and will remember him as one of the most enjoyable people we've had the pleasure to know. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
I was extremely saddened when I learned about Val’s passing. Our paths crossed for the first time at Aastra, I was nervous about my career moving in a new direction, Val's support made the transition easier for me. He was not only there as a colleague but as a friend. I feel genuinely privileged to have known him and will never forget Pappa Bear. My sincere thoughts are with Suzanne and the girls during this difficult time.
Dear Suzanne, We were lucky to know Val and have him as a friend. I was remembering how he was always kind to us, ready and willing to help and how deep his convictions and concerns were about what was right and wrong especially for the church. I hope he can sense all the love and kindness he gave in life being returned tenfold and nurturing his soul in his new state of being. I will do my best to help where/when you need it. Please do not hesitate to ask. Love always, Xenia
I am deeply saddened by Val's passing. He will always remain a voice of reason in my conscience. He was guiding force for me and gave me advice that I carry with me every day in my professional life as an Engineer. Val was a smart and caring man with a spirit larger than his body. He will live on through us all. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Schumakoff family. Sincerely, Matt
Please accept my deepest sympathies to Val's family and friends. I only had the pleasure of working with him for a week, but in that short time I realized that he was kind and helpful person. He made sure to let me know that I could count on him if there was anything I needed help understanding in my new position. Thanks Val.
Those who are taken from us unexpectedly remind us of how truly short life can be and to cherish every moment. May your sorrow be lessened by remembering all of the loving memories you shared. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Warm regards, Laura & Ty

Dear Suzanne, please accept my deepest sympathies for you and your family. I have only known Val for a short time, about 18 months, but despite that he had a huge impact on me. I remember visiting your house and barbequeing with you, yours and Vals hospitality was fantastic. He was always great fun to be around and I'll miss him. I won't be there on Tuesday to say goodbye in person, but Andy Mc will be and he will be carrying my condolences. Tim Felstead
We were just remembering some of the driving events we did together.
Watkins Glen when poor Alena was just starting to walk. Gravity was so relentless that weekend. The poor kid looked like she had been in a prize fight without the prize.
The three day event at Mid Ohio. Where Val, Mark and I stayed at the worst fleabag hotel in Ohio (maybe the US.) But we went back the next year because they gave us a hose and bucket to wash our cars.
Another Watkins where Val and Mark were sharing a car. They wore the rear tires down to the cord the first day and had to scramble to get another pair only to cord the fronts on the first run on the next day.
And of course all of the camaraderie at home afterwards banging out fenders and bolting new pieces on the cars so we could go do it again.
I will miss the big lug,
Frank Baker
Dear Suzanne, We were sorry to hear about Val's death. We are still in shock, it was only about a week ago that Val called to see how we were doing. He remembered that it was 2 years since the kidney transplant. Val was one of the good guys. We will miss his caring friendship. We talked about getting together to put the white car back on the road. He was thinking of selling it because he had not used it a couple of years. Our deepest sympathies to you, Elena and Joanna. You and the girls will be in our prayers. Frank and Kathy Baker
Suzanne, Kim and I are both shocked and filled with sorrow at hearing of Val's passing. Our hearts and thoughts are with you and the girls during this troubling time. I will miss Val and his passion for life. He was a good friend and someone I could talk to about anything and everything. We hope to be with you on Tuesday to pay our respects and to say our goodbyes. With deepest sympathy. Kim and Neil Karsh
I am so heartbroken - and I am so sorry for your loss. I knew Val back in our Navy days - early 1980's on board the USS Hunley. Val and I rented/shared a small house together for about 6 months outside the main gate in Charleston. (We even had a dog.) We stayed there because anything was better than living on ship during its overhaul - and we were VERY broke back in those days. We had MANY good times there. Just a couple years ago, I was in Charleston on business and made a point of finding that place - yes, it was still there. In fact, it looked BETTER than it did when we lived there! Val was a very special guy. I feel bad that I did not stay connected with him over the years.
