I worked with Joe in Times Square P.O. for 18 years. The first 3 were on the midnight tour. We worked in the same aisle and spent 4 hours every night shooting the breeze in TSS. At the time, our 17 year difference was quite noticeable, me being a 21 year old "hippie" and Joe a man of a different generation. We had many different views, but always shared them as respectful friends. And as we got older we found that we had a lot more in common than we had originally thought.
I've only seen Joe, and met Kathy once, since he retired and talked to him a few times since then, so most of my memory of him is from work. I found Joe to be a wonderful person and always quick to return a smile. To me that is a true gauge of a person along with the fact that I don't know anyone who would ever have a bad word to say about Joe. Simply said, he was a great guy.
My heart goes out to Kathy and their family and I am sure that this event leaves a huge hole in their lives. But Joe lives on forever in our hearts and minds.
