Condolences
I can not express in words how truly sorry I am to hear about Josie. My heart just aches for Sal and the family. Josie was truly one of the really good people in this world and I will miss her so very much. I know God has his own plan and I need to think He needed another angel at this time.
My thoughts and prayers go out to your family and loved ones. I know from Joanna that her mother was a very special, loving person. I know she will be deeply missed. Keith Marder
Joanna and I met in high school and became close friends. I, too, visited Josie and Sal in Florida many times. One of my favorite memories of Josie is the time we went to visit them, and Tropical Storm Gordon hit Florida. We were stuck in the house for 4 days! Josie would cook us breakfast, lunch and dinner and Sal kept us laughing. One night, the screen door to the sun room unlocked and swung open. Instead of calling Sal, or asking one of us to help, Josie put a shower cap on her head, grabbed a broom and stepped out into the pouring rain to try to get the screen door closed. It brings a smile to my face every time I think of it.
The things I will always remember and miss about Josie: her hug, her contagious laugh, the way her glasses would sit at the tip of her nose, her eggplant, and her beautiful smile.
I'm the little guy on the end, some 60 years ago. If not for Aunt Jo & Uncle Sal we would never have found our place in Florida. We will miss her generous hospitality, her great sense of humor and the loving affection she always gave us.

Growing up in Brooklyn with Joanne as my best friend were some of my favorite memories. Those memories include spending countless hours at the Benigno home. Being invited to stay for dinner was always a real treat. Josie was a great cook and Sal was always ready to give us a good laugh. Josie was always warm and kind hearted. She always made me feel welcome and I often felt like her fifth child. When
Joanne and I were in our 20's we visited Sal and Josie in Florida. As usual they were the perfect hosts and made me feel right at home....literally. I had to hide my short skirt in fear that I'd get in trouble!!! Josie will always hold a special place in my heart, I loved her like my second mom. She will be missed.
Dear Joanna: My heart hurts for you and your family. Losing a Mom is the hardest thing to absorb; and from the way you spoke about her I could hear the love emanating in your words. I'm always here to speak with you. Affectionately, Lenore
