Obituary of Charles Kauffman
Charles I. Kauffman, Jr. 81, of Howell Township, died Friday at home. Mr. Kauffman was born in Lakewood and was a lifelong resident of Howell Township. He was employed by the Ocean County Health Department for 25 years and retired as County Health Coordinator in 1992. Mr. Kauffman was a self-employed poultry farmer during the 1950s and 1960s. Following his retirement from Ocean County, Mr. Kauffman returned to farming as a nursery and vegetable grower. Mr. Kauffman was an avid bridge player achieving the rank of Junior Master. He also enjoyed traveling, and was fortunate to see most of the world. He was a Korean War US Army Veteran and a communicant of St. Catherine of Siena RC Church in Farmingdale. Mr. Kauffman was a graduate of Lakewood High School Class of '47 and he was also a graduate of Michigan State University.
Mr. Kauffman was predeceased by his beloved wife, Joan, in 1993. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Douglas C. and Debra of Howell; and Robert W. and Laraine of Wall Township; and a daughter and son-in-law, Donna M. and Jason Block of Brooklyn, NY; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may gather at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton Adelphia Road, Freehold Township, NJ on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 8:00 AM for a rite of committal followed by a 9:00 AM funeral mass at St. Catherine of Siena RC Chapel, Main Street, Farmingdale. Interment is private. Visiting at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
