Obituary of Edward Myers
Edward W. Myers, Sr., 76, of Toms River passed away suddenly on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Fredericksburg, VA, on his way to Darlington to see the race. Ed was born in Charleston, WV, was raised in Sayreville and had lived in Howell for 41 years before moving to Toms River in 2001.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran serving as a helicopter mechanic during the Korean War. Ed was the first dispatcher for the Howell Township Police Department retiring in 1998. Prior to that, he owned an Esso Station in the Winston Park section of Howell until the construction of Route 195. Ed was a former parishioner of St. Veronica Catholic Church where he was a cornerstone of the parish and most recently, a parishioner of St. John Catholic Church, Lakehurst. He was a life member of the Howell First Aid Squad. Ed was an avid Richard Petty fan and loved to go to the races.
He was predeceased by his wife, Adelaide, in 2000. Ed is survived by five sons, Command Master Chief Edward W. Myers, Jr. USN (Ret.) and his wife, Cindy of Virginia Beach, VA; William Myers of Manchester; John Myers and his wife, Monica of Manchester; Joseph Myers and his wife, Rebecca of Charlotte, NC, and Christopher Myers and his wife, Tina of Howell; two daughters, Mary Griffiths and her husband, Red of Brick and Adelaide Mathis and her husband, Mark of Westerville, OH; 16 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren and three brothers, Frank Myers of Cary, NC; Chuck Myers and Joe Myers both of Sayreville.

Sunday, May 15, 2011, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Friends and relatives may gather at 8:30 AM on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the funeral home for the Rite of Committal followed by his 9:30 AM Funeral Mass at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell.
