My husband also died of addiction. He was denied a liver transplant due to the "six month rule" barring addicts from transplantation...despite the fact that post-surgery outcomes are identical to other patients, and that only 1.5% of addicts post-transplant continue to use. This is just one example of our incredibly archaic practice of blaming the victim.
