Obituary of Barbara Ann Fernandez

Barbara Ann Fernandez, 62, of Howell passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  She was born in The Bronx, raised in Bay Terrace and lived in the Annadale section of Staten Island before settling here in 1985.  Barbara was a graduate of New Dorp High School and the College of Staten Island.  She was an inspiring and motivating educator for the Howell Township Board of Education for over thirty years, at Taunton Elementary School.  She was involved in many school activities and programs through the years.   A devout catholic, she was a parishioner of the Church of St. Veronica where she taught CCD, lent her time to the Adoration Chapel and was the captain of a Eucharistic Ministry team.  Family and friends meant the world to her.  Barbara’s favorite pastimes were dancing with her husband, going to the beach, traveling, reading, walking the reservoir and creating wonderful memories with her six grandchildren.  She loved life and embraced everyone she met with her beautiful blue eyes and loving smile.  Her generosity, patience, kindness and nurturing spirit were present in all her endeavors.   

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank T. D’Alessio, Sr. and Joan D’Alessio; and her father-in-law, Orlando Fernandez.  Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Orlando Fernandez, Jr.; daughters, Alana Beldowicz and her husband, Daniel of Jackson and Danielle Roseland and her husband, Timothy of Red Bank; six grandchildren, Daniel, Alexandra, Brendan, Victoria, Kelsey and Connor; brothers, John D’Alessio and his wife, Donna of Howell and Frank T. D’Alessio, Jr. and his wife, Madeline of Morganville; mother-in-law, Louise Fernandez of Jackson; sister-in-law, Anna Marie Fernandez of Staten Island, NY and Laura Galindo and her husband, Robert of Edison; and numerous nieces, nephews and  cousins.  

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Tuesday, February 20, 2018 and Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at 8:30 AM on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at the funeral home for the procession to her 9:30 AM Funeral Mass at the Church of St. Veronica, 4215 Route 9 North, Howell.  Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island.  For information, directions or condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
