Condolences
You've always said how lucky you were to have us in your life but Mama, we're the lucky ones. You're the greatest gift a granddaughter could ever have. Words cannot express how much I love and miss you.
How can I best describe my mother.
She had a way with words - - - -
When I bought her something she would say "you are not the Rock of Gibraltar" instead of "Rockefeller". At our daily call when I left work she would check the time, yell at me and say it is getting "black dark" which meant it is fall/winter and dark out. She would tell me the news of the day. When I got on the bus (knowing I should not be talking) she would start to whisper on her end, as if the passengers could hear her.
She taught me everything I needed to know about cleaning products and air fresheners - - - so much so that we fondly refer to that aisle in the store as the "DeSpirito" aisle.
We had a thing we would do when we went shopping - which was our favorite past time. She would pick out the ugliest clothing item and say it was for me, and I would do the same.
She loved "knick knacks", especially anything related to the holidays. We would "scope" out the stores for little things - not expensive, just something that would represent her and the holiday. Her favorite places for these were Marshalls, Home Goods and Christmas Tree Shop. She would come home and proudly show my father her "finds" and say how much money she saved him. She loved snow, spray snow, snow blankets - the ornaments I would buy her for the tree sometimes had so much snow you could not tell what they were - but she loved the way it looks, so it didn't matter.
She loved to have family over for the holidays, and the relatives of relatives - she was always open for more company. She loved Christmas and gift giving and we would start in September looking for little momentos to give all the guests.
She loved to play Uno and especially when my father, Mike or I got tons of cards - it would make her laugh.
She was not a huggy, kissy type of person, but you knew she loved you, and loved alot - - just by the warm feeling you would get being with her.
She was my best friend, my therapist, my sounding board. Over the past couple of weeks our daily calls would end with a "love ya babe". Love ya Ma.
Never will we forget our visits throughout her illness when she kept us laughing and sharing her memories. Her courage was extraordinary.
From Annette, Theresa and Eddie
Nick, My condolences to you and your family. Sally
I'm sorry for the loss of your dear loved one, you are not alone and may you find encouragement from God's word the holy bible at 2 Corinthians 1:3,4: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God." May you be comforted and in peace during this difficult time as you draw close to God in prayer. (Isaiah 12:2, Psalms 83:18)
Our heartfelt sympathy is with you on the passing of your loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister. We share this quote from Thomas Campbell that was shared with us when we suffered the loss of our loved ones ~ "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." We hope the warm memories give you peace and the love from those around you give you strength.
May you all find comfort in treasured memories.....With sincere sympathy....Bob
