Obituary of Alfred Pereira

Alfred Pereira, 74, of Howell passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at home.  He was born in Newark and had lived in Hillside before settling in Howell in 1971. Here he established his self-owned and operated business, Al’s Auto Body in 1972.  Al could always be found at the shop and his business was his passion.  He assisted the Howell Township Police Department for 35 years towing vehicles. Al joined the Squankum Fire Company in Farmingdale in 1974 where he proudly held many positions as a life member. He served as former chief, fire commissioner, and trustee at the firehouse.  In his spare time, Al enjoyed fishing on his boat and spending time at his shore home in Forked River.  Most of all, he loved his family dearly and was a devoted grandfather.

Alfred was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Emilia Pereira. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Pereira of Howell; children, Ann-Marie Caliendo and her husband, Ralph of Jackson and Joseph Pereira and Marilina DeNuptiis of Howell; grandchildren, Lyndsey Gill and her husband, Robert of Jackson, Kristina Caliendo of Jackson, Joseph Pereira, Jr. of Howell, and Emily Pereira of Howell; brother, Arthur Pereira and his wife, Maria of Toms River; and many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, April 22, 2019 from 5:00 to 9:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 10:30 AM for the procession to his graveside service in Ocean County Memorial Park.
