I am so sorry to have read that Genevieve West passed away almost two years ago. To me she was my godmother, my Aunt Gen. My parents worked with her at the Diagnostic Center in New Jersey. We moved to California when I was 5, so unfortunately I was unable to know her well. She and her son, Joey, visited our home in California many years ago and I was able to meet up with her in Southern California many years later. Well into my adulthood, Aunt Gen sent me Christmas gifts and for decades later, we exchanged Christmas cards.
In the early 1970’s, Professor West taught social welfare at Georgian Court. I was a student fortunate to be in her class. At the time I was a sociology major with no direction or career path. Prof. West became a major influence in my life. She took great interest in each student and after many conversations I decided to pursue a career in social work. I will be forever grateful for her influence, patience, and generosity of time and wisdom! She was a wondeful woman who touched many, many lives. Please know I offer my deepest condolences to Prof. West’s family and friends.

I worked with Gen for many years at Lakewood Middle School. Kindness and compassion come to mind when I remember her.
My family knew her mother Dr Lena Edwards for many years from Jersey City. The world has lost a true champion for children. God Bless her soul .
