This Blankety-blank Pandemic does not allow for the memorial service Pop deserves but that doesn't take away our ability to reflect on the way he has touched each of our lives. He had a reputation, deservedly so, for being a Helion in his younger days (crazy Tommy he was known to some) but then he fell in love with Maureen and he was determined that someday she would be his wife. He showed up on their first date-a movie and dinner- dressed in a blue suit with white socks. I don't recall the movie they saw but dinner was hot dogs from a street vendor. It was at that moment she knew he was the one. It's a funny story and one she loves to tell but that fateful "date" had a profound impact on our lives. I gained a loving Step-mom and three sisters, Debbie, Denise, and Diane ( the three D"s) who I can't thank enough for the love, care, emotional support and encouragement they gave Pop during the course of his illness'(s). He was blessed with many grandchildren (Deanna held a special place in his heart) and great-grandchildren who brought as much joy to his life as he did theirs. He softened somewhat in his later years. His grandkids enjoyed his presence at their sporting events and delighted in the stories of the exploits of his misspent youth. He had an uncanny charm that endeared him to the great-grandkids. He wouldn't hesitate to get down on the floor with them to entertain them with a game or a toy. I have many fond memories of our family outings, a weekend trip to a Toms River cabin with "little Nanny and Gramps was especially memorable, fishing behind Korvettes, WhiteCastle trips, and pay day dinners at Jahns. He was a hardworking man and took pride in his work. He got me my first "real" job and working alongside him for those many years prepared me for future endeavors. His passing yesterday has stirred so many memories that I didn't sleep. I will miss my Pop but I know he will be in good company with his son Robert, son-in-laws Andy, and Jimmy, brother-in law Cef and his brother and sisters welcoming him into the club of the dearly departed. Can't you just imagine that reunion! We love you and miss you already Pop, your son.......Tommy
