Obituary of John Congo

John “Johnny” Congo, 77, of Jackson, NJ and Bonita Springs, FL passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  Johnny was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY before moving to the Oak Hill section of Middletown to raise his family.  Since 2007, Johnny has lived in both Jackson, NJ and Bonita Springs, FL.  He was the owner of WorldWide Maintenance, LLC for the past forty years.  A man of faith, he was a parishioner of both the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold Township, NJ and St. Leo’s Church in Bonita Springs, FL. With a passion for the game of tennis, Johnny was a member of Palmira Golf and Country Club in Bonita Springs, FL.  Most recently, he took up boating and became a member of the Freedom Boat Club. A jack of all trades, he could fix anything and was often called “MacGyver”.  Johnny was an antique gun aficionado and had a fondness for the beach. He and his wife travelled the world and for many years, stayed in villas in Italy.  He will be remembered for many things, but more than anything, his sense of humor and making everyone around him laugh. Johnny was a loving father and doting grandfather but most of all, with his wife was where he wanted to be.  A true love affair, Johnny and Ellen were just as much in love the day he died as the day they met.

Johnny was predeceased by his parents, John and Virginia Congo.  He is survived by the love of his life and wife of fifty-five years, Ellen Congo; three daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Patrick Ard of Lincroft, Dorene and Bob Penny of Monmouth Beach and Christine and Josh Kanne of Basking Ridge; six grandchildren, Connor, Christian, Mackenzie, Julia, Abigail, and Ben; two brothers, George Congo and Edward Congo; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township, NJ 07728.  For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines.
