Donald K. Callahan, 87, of Manalapan passed away on Monday, March 8, 2021.  He was born, raised, and had lived most of his life in Brooklyn, New York before settling in Manalapan in 1965. He started working on the American Stock Exchange when he was 17 years old as a runner, and eventually worked his way up to becoming a stockbroker. He later moved to the New York Stock Exchange with a career spanning over 50 years.  He retired in 2001 from Spear, Leeds & Kellogg. Donald had a wonderful life together with his wife Delys and two daughters Helen and Marilyn, other close family members and many friends. This year would have marked his 70th wedding anniversary with Delys.

Among many interests, Donald was an avid reader and a Civil War buff, making numerous trips with friends to the different battlefields. He also enjoyed listening to big band music and was knowledgeable about opera, taking many trips to the Metropolitan Opera House. A true Irish raconteur, he could regale anyone with great stories, whether it was about the old days in Brooklyn, his love of history, the daily news or any everyday situation, he made the story memorable.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas and Robert Emmett, sister, Mary Ellen, and a son-in-law, James Sant’Andrea. Donald is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Delys and daughters, Helen and Marilyn and granddaughter, Ellis.
