Obituary of Lucy M. Mariano

Lucy M. Mariano, 91, of Freehold Township passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Monday, April 12, 2021.  She was born and raised in Paterson and had lived in Clifton and Westfield before settling here in 1964 to raise her family.  Lucy worked as a registered nurse at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson.  She loved the Lord and Jesus with all her heart.  She was a parishioner of the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine and was proud to serve as a Eucharistic minister, a CCD teacher and lector. Lucy was passionate about the pro-life movement, and her love for the unborn brought her to co-found Birth Right in the 1970s.  Lucy was so charitable, always wanting to assist those in need in any way she could.  She had an enormous heart, with so much love to give and was a second mother to so many.  Those who knew Lucy will remember her best as a devoted wife, and loving and caring mother and grandmother.

Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas E. Mariano; parents, Vito and Raffaela Laraia; siblings, Tony, Tesse, Filomena and Matilda; grandson, Sean; and granddaughter, Sally.  She is survived by her sons, Gunnar Mariano of Jackson, Timmy Mariano of Freehold Township, Tommy Mariano and his wife, Veronica of Jackson, and Kevin Mariano and his wife, Catherine of Jackson; nine grandchildren, Tommy, Kevin, Alexis, Dustin, Benjamin, Elijah, Shayna, Jackson and Sandy; four great grandchildren, Ava, Chloe, Jacob and Gabriella; brother, Larry; and sisters, Rosie, Loretta and Mary. 

Visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Thursday, April 15, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township.  Interment will follow in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold Township.  Remembrances in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN 38105 would be appreciated by the family.  For information, directions or to leave condolence messages to the family, visit www.claytonfuneralhome.com
