Obituary of Thomas G. Shanahan
Thomas G. Shanahan, 61, of Freehold Township passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. He was born and raised in Kenilworth and had lived in Freehold for the last 29 years. Thomas was the President and Chief Hospital Executive at Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy. He was a devoted leader and patient advocate, dedicated to Raritan Bay and its patients. He enjoyed golfing and spending time at the beach, especially on vacations to Aruba – where he always woke up early to ensure his family had the best hut on the beach. Most of all, Thomas loved to spend time with his family and provided for them in every way he could.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Elizabeth Shanahan. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Andrea Shanahan of Freehold; children, Christopher T. Shanahan and his wife, Danielle, Michael R. Shanahan, and Caitlyn Rose Shanahan all of Freehold; siblings, Joseph Shanahan and his wife, Sue of Glen Gardner, William Shanahan and his wife, Denise of Freehold, Kevin Shanahan and his wife, Janel of Westfield, Michael Shanahan of Ocean City, and Kathleen Shanahan of Somerville; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Friday, May 14, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. For the safety of the public and our staff, we are asking everyone to help us adhere to the CDC guidelines. Facemasks will be required. Relatives, colleagues, and friends are invited to attend his 10:00 AM Funeral Mass on Saturday, May 15, 2021 at the Co-Cathedral of St. Robert Bellarmine, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township. For those who can not attend in person, the family invites you to attend the Funeral Mass via Webcast through the funeral home website, HERE. Interment will be private. For those who desire, memorial contributions in Mr. Shanahan’s name may be made to Hackensack Meridian Health.
