Demetriou i would like to pay my respects to the Entire Curato Family i myself will always be grateful for the Love , & kindness & generosity that My former Boss , Mentor & friend Larry Curato showed to me for all that read my words i want Everyone including the Entire Curato Family to know how much my former Boss Mr. Larry Lazaro Curato Meant to me at the time that i had met Mr. Larry Curato i happen to be out of work & i was standing on the steps of The Brooklyn Academy of Music speaking to 1 of my friends who just so happened to be Employed at The Brooklyn Academy & on this particular day which was around July or August of 1992 a Gentleman had just parked his white work van in the Main B.A.M. outdoor parking lot & as he was waking up to the main Entrance of the Academy he stopped & said to me & i quote “ you know i see you here a lot , you are here so much you should be working here ! then Larry asked me if i wanted a Job you see this might not seem like a big Gesture for the majority of those who are reading about this particular act of generosity & kindness that Mr. Larry Curato showed me but what you don’t know is that at the time i was a about around 24 - 25 years old & i happen to have Hemiplegia - Spastic - Cerebral - Palsy with CoExisting Neurological Cognitive intellectual - impairments - & Disabilities & i had never had never been able to find a Permanent Full Time Job that would provide me with The Stability of steady work & a Stable income ami can tell you from my Experience individuals , as well as Corporations are not jumping at the chance to hire a Disabled worker such as myself & especially offer the Disabled person a livable wage along with the benefits that come with Full time Permanent Employment so when Mr. Currato asked me if i wanted a job i was so happy since i had already been out of work for about a couple of months if not more since i was previously got Employment through a Temp agency & i was bouncing around from job to job since all of my work assignments were Temporary but they never included Medical Coverage & paid holiday’s & Vacation & the hourly rate was to low for me to rent an apartment of my own so i could move out on my own once Mr. Currato had me fill out my W - 2 he let me know that since the Academy was closed for the summer i wouldn’t Officially start working till about Sept. or Oct. but to help me out until then Mr. Currato Explained to me that he had his own Construction Company & he needed me go down to File or obtain Permits & or Paperwork for him & that he would pay me per day out of his own pocket Mr. Currato or if you don’t mind me saying my Boss Larry was like a father to me the way he would speak to me on various things would be the exact way a father would speak to his own son the Advice he would give me on things that i had questions about & sometimes more often then not he would share stories with me about the different life experiences he had that taught him so much i knew that if i was having an issue with a problem i was trying to work through or it was something i didn’t know how to tackle i would just go to him & just start to tell him what i was trying to figure out or do & he would always give me the right answer to what ever i couldn’t figure out & the issues that i usually needed help with usually or almost always required a father’s guidance, as well as a fathers gentleness to handle i will always be Grateful & i will always Love Mr. Larry Lazaro Currato …,,,ie my Boss Larry for the Love , Kindness, & for the Care he showed me he gave me a chance when nobody else would i guess he saw something in me that was worth Nurturing, i will always remember him fondly & with Great joy ,& Admiration i will always Admire the way he walked he had this walk of invincibility, & strength , & confidence & i can still remember his Laugh when i would have bad days i would just think of my Boss Larry & i would just picture his face & i could hear his voice & i would ask myself how would my Boss Larry Handle this situation. He will always havens place in my heart & i will always remember him
I will always Love you Larry & i will carry the life lessons you taught me & i will try my best to live up to the Example of how a Man should be , & how he should carry himself & may i be able to give back 100 X fold in the same way & even more & i will try my best to carry your light with me along with your laughter & spread it to all that i Encounter.

I had the pleasure of working with Larry on and off for a few years while he was helping to manage a small office building in Brooklyn. Larry would be there first thing in the morning, unfailingly. He was underpaid for the task and his help and wisdom were invaluable. That was part of his "retirement" from BAM. I suspect there will be names at BAM remembered longer than Larry's but there shouldn't be - as much as anyone he made that place run.
After leaving the job where I met Larry I became a contractor, working mostly in Brooklyn and was fortunate to run into Larry from time to time - as always, he was friendly and helpful, and a beacon of calm in a chaotic work environment.
My condolences to his friends and family.

Condolences to Larry's family and friends; Larry was a rare and unique person.
Larry did a total renovation of our Bay Ridge, Brooklyn house, and he was a total delight to work with. Consistently cheerful, direct, honest and knowledgable, he and his crew finished the house within the timeline he quoted, and did a wonderful job. Five years later, we still marvel at the quality of the workmanship and the many unique touches. And we miss him; his quick and rich humor, his stories, his boisterousness and resourcefulness. And his unfailing kindness!

We will really miss Larry - his enthusiasm, his laugh, his cleverness and his expertise. He and his crew worked on two renovations for us over the last two years. He was always willing and eager to go the extra mile, to make sure everything was just right and that we were more than satisfied. He was a great communicator, his insight and inventiveness laced with humor and peppered with references to previous obstacles and the characters who inhabited them. Invariably, there was booming laughter. There are simply not enough people on the planet who care as much about their work, their promises and the people with whom they work, as Larry did. He appreciated and deeply cared for his crew. His work at the Brooklyn Academy of Music - a shining, historic and much loved structure - is testimony to his devotion and commitment to helping achieve the highest levels of craftsmanship. He met the challenges of work and life with dignity and care while juggling several projects at a time, all the time. He relayed only calm assurances and the determination to move forward to those he served. He was utterly dedicated to his family; they meant the world to him. Once, just before we met with him, he got off the phone with his wife and announced, "Well, I've got to call the plumber, we have a problem at home." Whereupon we asked, "Larry, why are you calling a plumber, we thought you could fix everything!" He replied with a broad grin, "No, this is a tough one, a grandchildren thing - a whole lot of Lego pieces went down the toilet!"
We are thankful and blessed to have had Larry in our lives.
Very best wishes,
Allen Scheuch and Sarah Holbrook

My family is so sorry for your loss, prayers go out to you Laura and Donna, and the rest of your family members! Such a terrible loss May he Rest In Peace, words can not describe the sorrow we feel for your family
I grew up in the same Brooklyn neighborhood as Larry. I was introduced to Larry and his brother Nicky through Sal Congemi (RIP) who lived in the same apartment building on McDonald Ave. We would later work together at the Brooklyn Academy of Music parking lot. Larry was always so laid back. He had a very loud and contagious laugh that would get everyone in a great mood. My deepest sympathies to Donna and the entire Curato family. May he Rest In Peace.
So very sorry to hear this news. I knew Larry from way back in Brooklyn. Prayers for his family and loved ones. May he Rest In Peace.
Larry a fantastic person, always there when you needed him, and if you had any questions or thoughts you may have wanted to share, he would listen. And he listened openly and he cared what you had to say and had valuable input. Larry met my sister Donna when I was 14 years old. Larry always was there for my sister and they supported each other on all levels and loved each other. I always knew that my sister Donna was in the best of hands! Love you Larry! And will always miss you and I know Donna will miss you and Laura will too. You are a great husband, Dad, grandfather, brother, father in law, son, and brother in law. Thanks for being you! Your brother in law of 41 years. Danny
