Obituary of Carl F. Book, Sr.

Carl F. Book, Sr., 91, of Lakewood passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.  He was born in Brooklyn and had lived in the Concord section of Staten Island. Carl moved to Howell in 1958 and settled in Lakewood in 2003.  He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.  Carl worked as a Master Diesel Mechanic for over 40 years at Hess Corporation, Gulf Oil Corporation and Paul’s Trucking Corporation and was a proud member of the Teamsters Union. 

Carl was predeceased by his wife, Irene Geraldine Book; his brothers, Gerard Book and Ed Book; and sister Margaret “Peggy” Book.  He is survived by his sons, Carl F. Book, Jr. and his wife, Joan of Jackson, Jon Book and his fiancé, Carolyn Brown Sellitti of Whiting, and Kenneth C. Book and Kathleen Murphy Book of Toms River; his daughter, Kathleen J. Book and her wife, Karen Kowalski of South Plainfield; eight grandchildren, Carl F. Book, III, Travis C. Book and his wife, Karen, Cpt. Tyler E. Book, Courtney Erin Book, Sgt. Jon David Book and his wife, Hayley, Kaylee M. Book, Rylee A. Book, and Brennan M. Book; two great grandchildren, Erin and Jamie Kowalski; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at the Clayton & McGirr Funeral Home, 100 Elton-Adelphia Road (Route 524), Freehold Township on Monday, August 30, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM with his funeral service to follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, Lakewood.  For those who cannot attend in person, you may participate via webcast.
