I don't know if you will remember me. I grew up with Ruben since we were 12 years old going to school together in Brooklyn NY. He called me OV. My mother would make us sandwiches for lunch with orange soda when we went to my house during lunch time in Jr High School. I also went to Ruben's house in Livonia Ave and his mom would make me the best Latin food. Ruben & me were like true brothers & Family . I am so sorry to hear this , I am still in shock. He has helped me in many ways in the music business but more than that we know each other before he ever got in the music business. RIP to a great friend and someone I consider to be my family also.

I know Ruben since I was 12 years old. We went to school together in Brooklyn, NY and at the age of 15 we started our first band together with Ruben on drums and me on guitar . Ruben became my best friend and I would bring him to my house on lunch time when we were in jr High school and my mother would make us sandwiches with orange soda. When the weekend came I would take my guitar and small fender amplifier on the bus with Ruben and go to his apartment where he lived with his mother and brother and we would set up in his living room and play rock music from the band known as Cream . Rubens mom gave me my first taste of Latin food and from there I was hooked for life and she treated me like I was her son. When we graduAted high school I ran away to Miami and Ruben stayed in NY and became one of the best & biggest record company executives in the world while I was playing guitar in clubs in Miami. I started playing on records in Miami and got called by Nick Martinelli to play on Chris Walkers first album. While I was playing my guitar on the track I heard Nick say Ruben Rodriguez. I stopped playing and asked him what he said and asked him if it was a Ruben That lived in NY , nick said yes and I hadn’t seen Ruben for 24 years . I asked nick to call Ruben and it was my long lost best friend from my teenage years. Was playing on a record on Rubens record company and I didn't know it. We spoke for 5 min on the phone and exchanged numbers. I went to visit him and stayed at his house and he took me to Electra Records where he was VP of The Black music division. I was also at this time mixing records in the studio and a few years later Ruben said I got a Gospel project that needs mixing can you do a song so I can hear if I want you to do the album. I did one song and Ruben loved it and the artist loved it and the album got nominated for a DOVE award. The I mixed Travis Green for Ruben and that got nominated for a DOVE award. Ruben then said OV ( my teenage nickname) I’m gonna be your manager. Then I mixed Chris Walker, Regina Belle, Howard Hewitt, Natalie Cole, Aretha, 3 Donell JONES albums and he got me to produce Tito Jackson & I did edits for Prince, Kanye, Tony Braxton and the list goes on. After not seeing my childhood best friend we hooked up again and I worked with some of the best and biggest music artists in the world. Natalie Cole would call me and ask his the weather in Miami because she had a house near where I lived and wanted to know. I can’t believe Ruben has gone to the next place. We were truly like brothers and shared secrets only brothers would talk about. Ruben took me to the big time level in music and he didn’t have to. He really loved what I did and said “ If you deliver , I’ll deliver” and he did. Because of Ruben I am living my dream of mixing some of the best voices in music and I’m still in shock he’s not here. I remember Ruben called me and said I want to also live in Miami and we together wit a real estate person found his place to live in Miami. Took us a month of looking to find the right place. I love you my friend and thank you for everything you passed my way . RIP my friend!

As I look back on the 25 plus years of knowing and working with Ruben, I was saddened and stunned by the news of his sudden passing. He was the quintessential radio executive and consummate professional in the music industry. His passion for the artists he managed and promoted far exceeded many and was unparalleled.

Ruben was always that someone you aspired to be like, from his class act in dress to his kind smile. Although it's been sometime since I last saw him he made an indelible impression on me and others like me in radio. We have lost "Radio's Best Friend."

I remember my 1st couple of Jack The Rapper conventions around '91 and '92. I was such a rookie but I realized early on who the major players were by the buzz created upon their arrival to the convention. Ruben was one of those players. When we first started working together about 13 years ago, I couldn't wait to tell him that when he and his crew hit that lobby of the Hilton Hotel in downtown Atlanta back in those days , their feet never touched the ground in my eyes. I'm so grateful I was able to spend time with Ruben just a couple of months ago. We talked for a long time and as usual, he was a great sounding board, always generous with honest advice and a true mentor to me. He will be missed by so many.

My dear friend who became family Ruben my goodness the news is devastating i am praying for your daughter words are few but your energy and wisdom will be missed your infectious smile will always be remembered. I know how much you loved your family starting w the continious praise for your mom i remember showing up at the service and sat beside you as regina belle sang for your beautiful mom .. You were an amazing person a diamond in the ruff ... Cut from a differently u were so proud of being from brownsville and i was proud to have known you for the past 30 years ty for being at my moms service also .. You are now w your son his mom and your queen u will be missed and you did your thing in the music industry everyone loved you ..... Cause you were cool like that ...
