My condolences to the Flaum family. Jackie was one of the kindest people I have met in my life. She was laser focused in her tasks as a professional and always mindful that as a team leader she had a unique unending position to motivate her team and always present her best. Jackie asked a lot from her staff, but never something she couldn't or wouldn't do herself. Our mentoring sessions continued even though I had long graduated social work school. Our long bus rides to or from work were filled with discussions and her pearls of wisdom on the inner workings of executive administration and how to not fall victim to the politics. Jackie's greatest gift to me, (yes there were many) was inviting me to a social workers' recognition dinner during the Dinkins Administration. The Mayor invited the Mandelas to NYC. Where the world renowned community social worker, Winnie Mandela was the keynote speaker. Jackie invited me to be her plus one at this ceremony and she knew this would expand my view of social work administration ; while challenging me to make the choice to always aim to do better ( reminds me of what my Mom would always say ). Jackie Flaum exemplified all the social work values she taught her students / staff. I'm proud to have known her; even though she was ill, she thought of me, reached out to me, prayed for my safety and recovery during hurricane Ian. Jackie Flaum was a decent human being, knew how to be a friend and I am forever grateful to have known her. Please sleep in eternal peace.
